There are several types of wood joints used in woodworking including flats, miter joints, butt joints, and toggle rails. Flats are simple joints where two pieces of wood are joined at a 90 degree angle. Miter joints join two pieces at an angle other than 90 degrees, such as at 45 degrees. Butt joints simply join the ends of two pieces of wood together. Toggle rails use a pivoting piece to join rails and stiles at their corners.
