MIAMI (May 6, 2013) – A sixth-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference for the FIU Panthers (27-26,
10-13 SBC) has netted an opening round matchup with the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (40-11, 19-4
SBC) in the 2013 SBC Tournament in Troy, Ala., on Wednesday, May 8 at 4 p.m. ET.
The Panthers enter this year's SBC Tournament looking to snap a current five-game losing skid,
following a pair of defeats versus FAU this past weekend.
Wednesday will mark the 57th
meeting all-time between FIU and Louisiana. The Panthers look to
avenge a three-game sweep at the hands of the Ragin' Cajuns earlier this season. (March 29-30).
Pitcher Corinne Jenkins leads the team with 13 wins – tops among all SBC freshman pitchers, striking
out 99 hitters in 132 1/3 innings.
2. Sophomore utility player Shelby Graves is tops in team batting with a .287 average and has registered
a 2.97 ERA in 70 2/3 innings with six victories.
Senior Jessy Alfonso placed herself in the FIU softball record books, scoring her 124th
career run last
Friday on a solo home run, moving into second-place all-time.
Louisiana enters Wednesday's contest having won their last 22 games to close out the regular season.
Nerissa Myers (.440), Brianna Cherry (.408) and Sarah Draheim (.400) lead a lineup that hit .333 as a
team in the regular season.
Pitcher Jordan Wallace has won 26 games in the circle, while boasting a 1.76 ERA in 191 1/3 innings.
The sophomore threw six shutouts and limited her opponents to a .172 batting average.
