Effective Utilization of Electronic Waste in Concrete
Mixture as a Partial Replacement to Coarse Aggregates
● Waste materials from other industries are being utilized in concrete productions
such as fly ash, silica fume etc.
● The waste materials from electronics and electrical industries are divided in two
categories hazardous and inert waste materials.
● The inert waste is also known as E-waste describes obsolete, discarded and
malfunctioned electrical or electronics devices.
● It is very difficult to dispose-off the E-waste materials.
● It is observed that the compressive strength of concrete is found to be 20.35 %
higher when coarse aggregate is replaced by 15% with two sizes of E-waste
material.
● The flexural strength of concrete beam is found to be 15.69 % higher when

The environmental impact of the processing of different electronic waste
components
The inert waste is also known as E-waste describes obsolete, discarded and malfunctioned
electrical or electronics devices as shown in Figure. The E-waste that generated is usually
disposed in the form of land fill, incineration, reuse, recycling. However, the cost of these
disposal measures is high and has hazardous effect on our environment. It is necessary to
arrive at a cost effective and environmental friendly recycling process, which may be
considered as the real need hour.

FLEXURAL STRENGTH GRAPH:
CONCLUSION:
• By comparing the results with conventional concrete at 28 days strength, it is observed
that the compressive strength of concrete is found to be 20.35 % higher when coarse
aggregate is replaced by 15% with two sizes of Ewaste material.
• By comparing the results with conventional beam at 28 days strength, it is observed
that the flexural
• strength of concrete beam is found to be 15.69 % higher when coarse aggregate is
replaced by 15% with two sizes of E-waste material.
• Greater than 15% replacement with any size of E-waste is not practicable or useful for
the construction work.
• Flexural strength shows satisfactory results regarding replacement of coarse aggregate
by E-waste material.
• Thus, from the present study it can be concluded that E-waste material can be used as
a partial replacement of coarse aggregate up to 15%. The problem of disposal of E-
waste disposal can be solved and hence helps the environmental pollution generated
by E-waste materials.
Partial replacement of E-plastic waste as Coarse-aggregate in
Concrete
Author :Ashwini Manjunath
Year : 2015
ABSTRACT
The management and recycling of E plastic waste is rapidly growing as it is a
valuable resource of IT industries and it is very hazardous substances and with low recycling
rate.
The Utilization of e plastic waste materials is a partial solution to environmental
and ecological problems.
As the use of E plastic waste will reduces the Aggregate cost and provides a good
strength for the structures and roads.
E-waste particles as fine and coarse aggregates in concrete with a percentage
replacement ranging from 0 %, 20% to 30% i.e. (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%) on the strength
criteria of M20 Concrete.
Experimental programme :
Flexural Strength Test Results:
● Flexural strength of all concrete mixes where the flexural strength of the specimen is
expressed
The modulus of rupture fb, and for testing purpose beams of size
150 × 150 × 700 mm were casted in cured in clean water for 28 days
Workability test results:
Slump Cone Test was conducted on fresh concrete with varying percentage of E-
plastic to know the workability of concrete as the amount of E-plastic waste increases.
where 0% is S1 is Conventional Mix or normal concrete mix, S2 with E plastic of 0%
of, S3 with 20% of E plastic and S4 with 30% of E plastic.
Conclusion
❏ Plastics can be used to replace some of the aggregates in a concrete mixture. This
contributes to reducing the unit weight of the concrete .
❏ For a given w/c, the use of plastics in the mix lowers the density, compressive
strength and tensile strength of concrete.
An Experimental Study on Partial Replacement for Coarse
Aggregate by E-waste in Concrete.
● Electronic waste is an emerging issue posing serious pollution problems to the human
and the environment.
● The disposal of which is becoming a challenging problem. For solving the disposal of
large amount of E-waste material, reuse of E-waste in concrete industry is considered
as the most feasible application.
● Due to increase in cost of normal coarse aggregate it has forced the civil engineers to
find out suitable alternatives to it.
● E-waste is used as one such alternative for coarse aggregate.
● Owing to scarcity of coarse aggregate for the preparation of concrete, partial addition
of E-waste with coarse aggregate was attempted.
E-waste which is used in the project:
Design mix proportions:
Compressive strength graph:
Conclusion:
In this project, the Compressive strength and split tensile strength have been studied for
various replacements of coarse aggregate (32%, 32%, 36%, 38% ) by E-waste.
• We have the optimum percentage of replacement is 34%. Its strength more
than the conventional concrete.
• E-waste concrete provide high Non permeability and safe compared to normal
concrete construction.
• Based on the results, E-waste is recommended in concrete for an economical
construction.

Optimizing the Planning of Maintenance Activities in Education
Buildings
AUTHOR : Mishal Alashari
ABSTRACT:
❏ Thousands of againg education buildings in the US are in urgent need of
maintenance to ensure their operational performance.
❏ The planning and scheduling of these maintenance activities need to be
optimized to minimize their total maintenance costs and reduce the challenging
deferred maintenance problems confronting education institutions in the US.
❏ This paper presents the development of a novel model for optimizing the
planning of maintenance activities in education buildings.
❏ The computations of the developed model are implemented utilizing an
optimization module that identifies an optimal maintenance schedule for
minimizing total maintenance costs; a scheduling module that calculates the start
day, start hour, finish day, and finish hour of all maintenance activities; and a
cost estimating module that estimates the total maintenance cost for each
generated schedule.

Moringa Seed Cake Biochar: A Novel Binder for Sustainable
Remediation of Lead-Contaminated Soil
AUTHOR: Bhoomi A. Kamdar
❏ The present investigation applies the stabilization/solidification technique for
lead (Pb)-contaminated soil remediation utilizing an organic binder to negate
the environmental consequences caused by inorganic binders such as cement.
❏ This research synthesized novel biochar by slow pyrolysis of moringa seed
cake or de-oiled cake (waste generated after oil recovery) and tested its
physicochemical characteristics, which revealed that it possesses a high pH and
abundant surface functional groups that can act as potential adsorption sites for
lead.
❏ Furthermore, the effects of biochar content (0% to 10% w/w) and curing time
on the stabilization of soil contaminated with Pb at a concentration of
❏ 5,000 mg/kg

  • 3. Effective Utilization of Electronic Waste in Concrete Mixture as a Partial Replacement to Coarse Aggregates ● Waste materials from other industries are being utilized in concrete productions such as fly ash, silica fume etc. ● The waste materials from electronics and electrical industries are divided in two categories hazardous and inert waste materials. ● The inert waste is also known as E-waste describes obsolete, discarded and malfunctioned electrical or electronics devices. ● It is very difficult to dispose-off the E-waste materials. ● It is observed that the compressive strength of concrete is found to be 20.35 % higher when coarse aggregate is replaced by 15% with two sizes of E-waste material. ● The flexural strength of concrete beam is found to be 15.69 % higher when ABSTRACT: AUTHOR: VARSHA RATHORE OPEN JOURNAL , 2021
  • 4. The environmental impact of the processing of different electronic waste components
  • 5. The inert waste is also known as E-waste describes obsolete, discarded and malfunctioned electrical or electronics devices as shown in Figure. The E-waste that generated is usually disposed in the form of land fill, incineration, reuse, recycling. However, the cost of these disposal measures is high and has hazardous effect on our environment. It is necessary to arrive at a cost effective and environmental friendly recycling process, which may be considered as the real need hour.
  • 6. PROPERTIES OF COARSE AGGREGATE USED: PROPERTIES OF E-WASTE USED IN CONCRETE:
  • 9. CONCLUSION: • By comparing the results with conventional concrete at 28 days strength, it is observed that the compressive strength of concrete is found to be 20.35 % higher when coarse aggregate is replaced by 15% with two sizes of Ewaste material. • By comparing the results with conventional beam at 28 days strength, it is observed that the flexural • strength of concrete beam is found to be 15.69 % higher when coarse aggregate is replaced by 15% with two sizes of E-waste material. • Greater than 15% replacement with any size of E-waste is not practicable or useful for the construction work. • Flexural strength shows satisfactory results regarding replacement of coarse aggregate by E-waste material. • Thus, from the present study it can be concluded that E-waste material can be used as a partial replacement of coarse aggregate up to 15%. The problem of disposal of E- waste disposal can be solved and hence helps the environmental pollution generated by E-waste materials.
  • 10. Partial replacement of E-plastic waste as Coarse-aggregate in Concrete Author :Ashwini Manjunath Year : 2015 ABSTRACT The management and recycling of E plastic waste is rapidly growing as it is a valuable resource of IT industries and it is very hazardous substances and with low recycling rate. The Utilization of e plastic waste materials is a partial solution to environmental and ecological problems. As the use of E plastic waste will reduces the Aggregate cost and provides a good strength for the structures and roads. E-waste particles as fine and coarse aggregates in concrete with a percentage replacement ranging from 0 %, 20% to 30% i.e. (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%) on the strength criteria of M20 Concrete.
  • 12. Flexural Strength Test Results: ● Flexural strength of all concrete mixes where the flexural strength of the specimen is expressed The modulus of rupture fb, and for testing purpose beams of size 150 × 150 × 700 mm were casted in cured in clean water for 28 days
  • 13. Workability test results: Slump Cone Test was conducted on fresh concrete with varying percentage of E- plastic to know the workability of concrete as the amount of E-plastic waste increases. where 0% is S1 is Conventional Mix or normal concrete mix, S2 with E plastic of 0% of, S3 with 20% of E plastic and S4 with 30% of E plastic.
  • 14. Conclusion ❏ Plastics can be used to replace some of the aggregates in a concrete mixture. This contributes to reducing the unit weight of the concrete . ❏ For a given w/c, the use of plastics in the mix lowers the density, compressive strength and tensile strength of concrete.
  • 15. An Experimental Study on Partial Replacement for Coarse Aggregate by E-waste in Concrete. ● Electronic waste is an emerging issue posing serious pollution problems to the human and the environment. ● The disposal of which is becoming a challenging problem. For solving the disposal of large amount of E-waste material, reuse of E-waste in concrete industry is considered as the most feasible application. ● Due to increase in cost of normal coarse aggregate it has forced the civil engineers to find out suitable alternatives to it. ● E-waste is used as one such alternative for coarse aggregate. ● Owing to scarcity of coarse aggregate for the preparation of concrete, partial addition of E-waste with coarse aggregate was attempted.
