RE|dance group biographies
Michael Estanich (artistic director) is an Associate Professor of Dance at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He
teaches modern dance, composition, dance pedagogy, movement analysis and dance history. He earned his MFA from The
Ohio State University and his BFA from Denison University. His creative research currently examines ideas of space,
architecture, landscape and habitation often resulting in dances supported by sculptural environments. He and Lucy formed
RE|dance group in 2009 as a means to explore long distance collaboration. Michael’s performance credits include Molly
Shanahan/Mad Shak, Cerulean Dance Theatre, Rebecca Rosen, Melanie Bales, Bebe Miller, a reconstruction of Mark Morris’
choreography All Fours, and Susan Marshall's ARMS. He teaches annually at the Trollwood Performing Arts School in
Moorhead, MN and recently became the choreographer for their Mainstage Musical. He is the North Central Regional
Director of ACDA.
Lucy Vurusic-Riner (executive director) is a native Chicagoan who has been dancing, choreographing and teaching in the
Midwest for over twenty years. She received her BS Degree in Dance and Dance Education from Illinois State University.
Lucy has been a member of Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak, RTG Dance Company and Matthew Hollis’ “The Power of Cheer.”
She has also been part of the community cast of White Oak Dance Project and David Dorfman Dance. Lucy has taught
modern, hip hop, and jazz at numerous studios and high schools in the Chicagoland area. For the last fourteen years she
was the Director of Dance at Oak Park and River Forest High School. Lucy now teaches at New Trier High School. In 2005,
Lucy completed her Masters Degree in Education from National Louis University and also received the Midwest Dance
Teacher of the Year award and was the youngest of four finalists in the running for the National Dance Teacher of the Year
award. When Lucy is not working with RE|dance group, she spends time with her super, supportive family: Jim, Margie and
Luka.
Daiva Bhandari (dancer) is an actress and dancer originally from Louisiana where she got her start as a performer playing
pretend outside in the rain. She attended Loyola University, New Orleans and after graduating with a BA in Drama and
History (cum laude), Daiva studied Modern Dance at Tulane University and Viewpoints with EgoPo Productions. She moved
to Chicago in 2006 and has worked with The Neo-Futurists, Theatre Y, Steppenwolf and The Building Stage, to name her
favorites. For the past four years Daiva has been lucky to perform across the Midwest with RE|dance group where she is
able to feel like her 11 year old self, lost in her imagination under the warm rain.
Stacy DeMorrow (dancer) earned her bachelor’s degree in dance from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. During
her studies there she performed works by Billy Siegenfeld, Susan Marshall, Mary Anthony, as well as spending a month
teaching dance in Thailand as part of the Thailand Project, a mission to use higher education as humanitarian aid. Now
living in Chicago Stacy has performed for Perceptual Motion Dance Company, We Stand Sideways Dance, Mordine and
Company Dance Theater, Montom Arts by Monica Thomas, and Kelly Anderson Dance Theater. Stacy is thrilled to continue
in her fifth season with RE|dance group.
Erika Astrid Farkvam (dancer) began her dance training at the Academy of Movement and Music in Oak Park, IL. In 2005,
she moved to Tucson, Arizona to attend the University of Arizona where she received her BFA in Dance in May 2009. From
2009 to 2012, Erika danced and choreographed with New ARTiculations Dance Theater in Tucson. Since Erika’s return to
Chicago in 2012, she has performed with Momenta (2012-14); a showing of Aftertaste, hosted by The Inconvenience and
Tuesday Night Dinner (2013); The Fly Honey Show (2013-14); works choreographed by Erin Kilmurray; and most recently in
The David Bowie Variety Hour Show at the MCA with The Salt. She is very excited to be performing with RE|dance group
this season.
Danielle Gilmore (dancer), originally from Yuma, Arizona, attended the University of Arizona, receiving her BFA in dance
performance. She trained under faculty members Susan Quinn Williams, Amy Ernst, Michael Williams, James Clouser,
Melissa Lowe-Handcock, Sam Watson and Nina Janik. Upon moving to Chicago, Danielle studied and performed with
Hedwig Dances, River North Dance Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago, JMT/JLS Choreography, and Chicago Dance Crash. She
also had the opportunity to travel and perform on Norwegian Cruise Line, "Pride of Hawaii," as an original cast member and
Dance Captain. Danielle is currently performing with Mordine and Company Dance Theater and Kelly Anderson Dance
Theater. Danielle is extremely excited to be performing with the amazing RE|dance group this season.

Adjudicators
Blake Beckham
Blake Beckham is a choreographer, producer and educator in Atlanta, Georgia.
She co-directs The Lucky Penny, a presenting organization with the mission to
advance artistry and cultivate community through daring, experimental
performance work. Blake’s artistry and leadership have been recognized with a
SEED Fund Grant from The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Tanne Foundation
Award, and Community Impact Award from Emory’s Center for Creativity. Her
work has been supported through residencies at Theater Emory and
Performance Works Northwest, and through competitive grants from Idea
Capital Atlanta, Fulton County Arts Council and more.
Blake’s current body of work examines the intersections of dance and design, where architectural
impulses collide with embodied inquiry. Working with large teams of multi-disciplinary collaborators, Blake
creates production designs filled with stunning intention and imagination. Her recent celebrated works include:
Threshold(2012), a dance inside a monumental cardboard house designed by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam
Architects and Dearly Departures (2014), a confluence of movement and mechanics featuring design by
Beckham’s collaborating partner, Malina Rodriguez.
Beckham earned a BA in English and Dance from Emory University, where she received The Sudler Prize
for highest achievement in the arts. She attended Ohio State as a University Fellow, to complete her MFA in
Choreography. Blake’s prolific career has included teaching appointments at Agnes Scott College, Emory
University and The Woodruff Arts Center. Recently, she launched The Lucky Penny’s Work Room, a rehearsal
studio that houses a residency program for Atlanta choreographers. The space is a community resource, and an
experiment in cooperative sustainability. There Beckham teaches and facilitates professional development
opportunities while she continues to make some of the most rigorous choreographic work in the South.

Robin Gee
Robin Gee is an Associate Professor of Dance at UNC Greensboro holds an MFA
in Choreography and Performance from Sarah Lawrence College and specializes
in African, and Modern dance techniques, Dance for the Camera and the
research and documentation of traditional dance forms. Ms. Gee has performed
with several New York based dance companies, including Les Ballet Bagata
directed by Yousouff Koumbassa, Maimouna Keita Dance Company directed by
Marie Basse Wiles and the Cinque Folkloric Dance Company where she served as
Choreographer and Artistic Director for 15 years. In 2006 she formed her own company Sugarfoote Productions,
a multiservice arts organization designed to help local North Carolina audiences experience the richness of
African and Diasporan cultural traditions. Since its inception Sugarfoote has presented a wide variety of arts
programming and is the 2010/2011 recipient of the UAC Multicultural Arts Investments Grants for her
community outreach programming. She is the recipient of the numerous research grants and awards for her
work in dance documentation and preservation, including but not limited to: The West African Research
Associations’ Post Doctoral Fellowship in African Research (2006); the Central Piedmont Regional Artists Hub
Grant (2005/2010) for her work on dance documentation in Guinea and again in 2010 for her work in Mali;
American Association of University Women’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for her work on The Mande
Lagacy – A Multimedia Dance Documentation Project (2006), and a US Fulbright Scholars Award for Urban
Griots: (Re) Imaging the Word (2013). Recently she has created and curated the Greensboro Dance Film Festival,
an international Screen Dance Festival showcasing films from around the world. In 2008 she created the

Directions to Sentry Theater @1800 from the University
• Travel North on Division St.
• Turn Right onto North Point Dr.
• Take the second Left and travel up the ramp to the parking structure.
• Keep to the right and continue to the top of the ramp.
• The Theater will be on your right at the top of the ramp.
• It is recommended to car pool to the theater if possible. During the weekdays (M-W) Sentry Insurance
employees will also be parking in the parking structure.
Tech Process
• All performers and Tech people should arrive at Sentry Theater at least 30 minutes prior to your
scheduled tech time.
• You can park briefly in front of the theater to unload any props. After unloading props, please park on
the top level if possible. If no spots are available on the top level, a lower level area is available.
• Once inside the theater, please stop at the Check-In Table in the lobby and a UWSP Volunteer will direct
you to the back stage area after giving a brief tour of the space.
• There will be two large warm-up areas where you can prepare as well as store your belongings during
your tech time.
o You can leave your costumes in your assigned dressing room.
o All props can be stored in this area until after your scheduled performance.
• When it is your time to tech, a UWSP Volunteer will lead you to the stage area.
• Each adjudication piece is allotted 20 minutes of tech time. The stage manager will keep strict track of
the time.
• Your tech person should deliver the labeled gels for each adjudication piece to the stage manager and
then make his/her way to the back of the theatre.
o There are 6 booms on each side of the stage with High, Mid, and Shin locations.
o Bring your gels without frames
o Each gel should be labeled with the University Name, Name of Your Dance, Boom Location
(High, Mid, Shin) and Stage Side (SR or SL)
o Please cut gels to the following specifications:
§ 1 set (high, mid, shin) for each side cut to 6.5 x 6.5
§ 5 sets (high, mid, shin) for each side cut to 7.5 x 7.5
• Your tech person will call all of the cues from the light booth. The sound board, however, is located at
the back of the house. Headsets will be used to communicate with the light board operator, sound
operator, and stage manager.
• During your 20 minutes, you should check your lights, set your music levels, and run the dance.
• After your tech, please leave the theatre as quickly as possible so that the next group can enter the
space.

Performance Process and Flow
• Check-In time for schools in Adjudication Concerts 1, 2, and 4 is 12:00pm.
• Check-In time for schools in Adjudication Concert 3 is 7:00pm.
• After checking in, you should go to the large warm-up areas until a UWSP Volunteer informs you that
the dressing rooms are available.
o Dressing rooms are rather small and will need to be shared. They should be used for make-up
and changing into costumes. Warming up and waiting should be in the large warm-up areas.
• A UWSP Volunteer will call you to the back stage area two pieces before your performance.
o Example: Dance #1 on stage, Dance #2 in the wings, Dance #3 and #4 in the hallway behind the stage.
• Once your performance is finished you should change out of your costumes, collect your personal
belongings from the warm-up area and depart.
• It is recommended that you not bring valuables with you to the warm-up area. Though there will be a
door monitor present at all times to watch items, to ensure safety leave valuables at your hotel or with a
friend.
• You are welcome to join the audience after your performance if seating permits.

INFORMAL CONCERT—JENKINS THEATRE, NFAC 270
FLOW
Stage Spacing (10:15-11:45am and 4:15-6:15pm)
• Each school will have 15 minutes of spacing time on the stage.
• The Stage Manager and Sound and Light Board Operators will be present to assist with flow, light
selection, and music playback.
o Stage manager should take notes on lighting ‘feel’ selection.
o The Stage Manager should keep time so that schools do not go over time.
• Schools can bring props to the scene shop doors and store items in the scene shop until the end of the
conference.
Performance (Sun. 8:00-10:00pm and Tues. 7:30-9:30pm)
• Call time for schools in Informal Concert 1 is 7:00pm.
• Call time for schools in Informal Concert 2 is 6:30pm.
• Schools should check with the door monitor at the Studio Theatre (NFAC 120). This is the warm-up area
for all Informal Concerts.
• Performers will have access to the dressing rooms for changing and make-up.
o Each school with be assigned a UWSP volunteer who can lead you to the dressing rooms after
checking in with the door monitor
• Your UWSP volunteer will lead all performers along a backstage path to Jenkins Theatre for your
performance and back to the Studio Theatre after your performance.
• Once your performance is finished you should change out of your costumes, collect your personal
belongings from the warm-up area and depart.
• It is recommended that you not bring valuables with you to the warm-up area. Though there will be a
door monitor present at all times to watch items, to ensure safety leave valuables at your hotel or with a
friend.
• You are welcome to join the audience after your performance if seating permits.
UWSP VOLUNTEER FLOW FROM STUDIO THEATRE TO JENKINS THEATRE
• The Flow is a 5 Station Process:

• Volunteers should stay with their assigned schools.
• Once schools check in with the Studio Theatre door monitor, you can lead dancers to the Jenkins Green
Room where they can change into costumes and do their make-up.
• Escort schools back to the Studio Theatre (Station 1) to await their call to Jenkins Stage.
• From the Studio Theatre, you will lead dancers up the spiral staircase in the Studio Theatre across the
catwalk and out the door nearest the Scene Shop Entrance (Station 2).
• When given the OK, move performers to the Jenkins Wing Area (Station 3).
• From the Wings, dancers will take their places to perform on Jenkins Stage (Station 4).
• After the performance, volunteers will lead the dancers down the stairs to the Green Room and back to
the Studio Theatre (Station 5).
• Dancers should change out of costumes collect personal items and exit the Studio Theatre.
