Durga Shakti Nagpal is an Indian Administrative Service officer who was suspended for taking action against illegal sand mining operations in Uttar Pradesh. As a sub-divisional magistrate in Noida, she filed many FIRs against sand miners and had mining equipment seized. She was alleged to have demolished a wall of a mosque under construction, but an inquiry found no religious structure existed and the wall was dismantled by locals after her warning. Her suspension is believed to have been due to pressure from the sand mafia, as a politician with links to the mafia took credit for her swift suspension. Her suspension was revoked after public outcry over the targeting of an honest officer.
