This document provides installation and maintenance recommendations for an enclosure to prevent water ingress. It recommends burying the enclosure to the ground-level mark or top of the plinth, sealing the base with epoxy resin over dry sand, and sealing any conduit ends with foam. It also recommends periodically oiling locks and hinges and checking gaskets whenever the door is opened to maximize service life.

1. Appropriate installation of this enclosure is necessary to prevent water ingress, as this may
have a detrimental effect on the performance of the enclosure and any equipment it
contains.
Ritherdon & Co recommend the following:
 bury to the ground-level indicator mark or to the top of the plinth, if separate;
 seal the base with a minimum 6 mm layer of epoxy resin (or other impermeable
material), preferably over a bed of dry sand;
 seal any conduit ends with expanding, polyurethane foam.
Periodic oiling of the locks and hinges is also recommended to maximise their service life
and the gaskets should be checked for damage whenever the door has been opened.
