our English Class.
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to learn:
1. identify common homograph used in a sentence
(Homograph)
EN3V-IIIg-h-13.7;
2. identify the multiple meanings of common
homograph;
3. recognize homograph through context clues; and
4. complete sentences with the correct homograph.
Find one word, or homograph, to fit the two meanings in each group. Write
your answer on a piece of paper.

Homographs are words that have the
same spelling, but with different
meaning and pronunciation. It is
important to use context clues to know
the
meaning and pronunciation of the word.
Homograph Riddle
Read and answer the following riddles. Choose your answer from the given words inside the box. Write your
answer on a piece of paper.
1. I am a hot, dry region with little rain. I can also mean “to leave”. What is my word? Can you spellit?

2. I am a small mobile manual device that controls movement of the cursor in your computer. I am also a small
rodent that you can see around your house. Do you know my word? Can you spell it?

Study the examples below.
These examples are called homographs.
Do you know where the word
homograph came from? Take a look at
this illustration.
If you check the previous examples, you can see that a
homograph is a word that has the same spelling as
another word but has a different sound and a different
meaning.
You can also identify homographs in the dictionary
because they have many
meanings. Depending on the definition the word can be
used as a verb, noun,
adverb, and/or adjective.
Here are some examples of homographs.
Pick two (2) pictures that
correspond to the word listed
on the table below.
Direction: Identify the meaning of the underlined homographs using
context clues and write your answer on a piece of paper.
1. Tony’s bike has a flat tire.

2. Can you give at least five examples?
Here is a list of homonyms. Read them carefully.
• allowed – aloud made – maid
• aisle – isle – I’ll been – bean
• scent – sent – cent sore - soar
• deer – dear wait – weight
• flea – flee break – brake
• serial – cereal cite – site
steak – stake flu – flew
fare – fair bight – bite
hear – here herd – heard
hi – high sole – soul
some – sum tail - tale
soar – sore scene - seen
scent – sent – cent
tale –tail peak – peek
Let’s learn Mathematics while learning the English
language. Are you ready? Do you know how to add and
subtract? I know you do. But let’s make it a twist. Instead of
adding or subtracting numbers, you will have to add or
subtract letters in order to form a new homonym of the first
word. Add/subtract letters to form the homonym of the first
word. Write the homonym that fits each sentence.
Grade 4

Identify all the signal words inside the box. Encircle it.
Do you know how to wash your hands? Today, we
are going to learn how to wash our hands properly.
Follow the directions carefully and ask someone
to help you read the directions.
HOW TO WASH YOUR HANDS
1.First, rinse your hands with water.
2.Next, apply plenty of soap on your hands.
3.Then, rub your hands together.
4.After that, rinse your hands properly.
5.Finally, dry your hands with clean towel.

6. Did you follow the directions easily? Why?
7. What words helped you to follow the directions easily?
8. Is it important to wash our hands daily? Why?
Directions are always present in our daily routine.
Following directions properly will help you to do
job easily. Signal words are words that can help you
understand directions in an easy way.
The words First, next, then, after that, and finally are
called Signal words. Signal words introduce the steps in
a process or sequence of events.
Signal words are used to follow the directions in their correct order.
These are the words that signal the next step to follow. Directions may
be given in doing something, how to make simple things or activity,
how to use things or objects and how to find places.
Directions are guides. Once followed properly they give positive results.
Signal words are also called sequence words. They are used in giving 3-
5 steps directions. Take note that in writing directions using signal
words, always put comma ( , ) after each signal word you use
Activity 1
Encircle the signal words in the passage.
How to make a warm glass of milk
First, heat up a cup of water using a pot or
kettle. Next, add 2-3 tablespoon of milk powder to a
glass. Then, pour the hot water into the glass. After
that, mix in sugar, if desired. Finally, stir your milk
and it’s ready to drink.
EVALUATION
Write on the blanks the correct signal words to complete the directions.
A. How to Make Lemon Juice
It is easy to make Lemon juice.
_______________, wash 2-3 Lemon fruits. 2.) _______________, cut them in the
middle crosswise. 3.) ________________, squeeze the cut lemon into the glass. 4.
______________, remove the seeds. 5.) _____________ add sugar and water and stir
