David recounted to Saul how as a shepherd boy he fought off a lion and bear that had taken one of his father's lambs. According to Revelation, John's vision included four beasts - the first was like a lion, the second like a calf, the third had a human face, and the fourth was like an eagle.

1. And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion,and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 1 Samuel 17:34

2. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. Revelation 4:7
