The child is trying to decide what costume to wear for a school fancy dress competition. Their father suggests going as Harry Potter but the child rejects it because the broomstick prop would get damaged on the school bus. Their sister suggests going as a Bollywood star but the child thinks they would trip dancing. The grandma suggests going as Lord Ganesha and provides papier-mâché props and a costume from her sari. However, the costume is still missing something. Grandma provides modaks as the finishing touch, and with her help the child wins first prize in the competition as shown by their certificate.

2. We’re going to have a fancy dress competition in
school tomorrow. Who should I go as?
Ma says, “Go as Gandhiji!!!!”
But I shook my head. There would be twenty
gandhijis in the class for sure.

3. Pa said, “go as Harry Potter.”
He gave a broom to me with a grin.
But I shook my head.

4. My sister said, “go as Hritik Roshan
She shook her hair free like a filmstar and
danced around me.
But I shook my head.
If I tried dancing, I would trip
my own feet.

5. Grandma said, “go as lord Ganesha”.
I smiled
I would go as Lord Ganesha

6. Grandma made a papier-mâché
trunk
And made a dhoti out of her old
Silk saree.
Now, I was ready as
Lord Ganesha

7. But there was something missing!
Grandma came with a bowl from the
kitchen
And when I looked into it,
I found a very delicious thing-
MODAKS!
It was because of grandma
That I won the competition.
Just look at my certificate.
