• family is the most important primary group in society.
• It is the group of biologically related individuals living
together and eating from common kitchen.
• It is the first and most immediate social environment to
which the child is exposed the most basic of all social
groupings. So family is known as the first school of
citizenship.

The family is a group of persons united by
ties of marriage, blood, or adoption,
constituting a single household; interacting
and communicating with each other in their
respective social roles of husband and wife,
mother and father, son and daughter,
brother and sister, and creating and
maintaining a common culture.

members of family are self defined.
Family health refers to the biological,
physiological, social cultural, and spiritual
aspects of life of individual members as well
as for the whole family.
13. FUNCTIONS OF FAMILY
Duvall and miller identified seven family function that are generally
applicable to all types of family structures:
• Generating affection
• Providing personal security and acceptance
• Giving satisfaction and sense of purpose
• Ensuring continuity and compassion
• Providing social placement and socialization
• Imposing control and sense of what is right
• Protect the health of the family members
