Two years later I was sent to the West Heath Boarding School in Kent. my father paid 4000
pounds per term and hoped that this respected school would take any ballet ideas out of my
head. Again it took a long time before I felt comfortable. At first I wanted only one thing: my
daddy would bring me home! I held through five years at the school, however I didn't pass my
exams, even at the second attempt. A place at college was therefore not possible, so I ended
stop going to school at 16. My family was important to me and love me.

Frances Ruth Burke Roche: At 7:45 this evening, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who
weighs 7 pounds, 12 ounces. Edward John Spencer and I chose the name Lady Diana
Frances Spencer. We’ll be leaving Park House, Sandringham, Norfolk, England, UK, as
soon as the doctors release me.
She left West Heath in 1977 and went to finishing school at the Institut Alpin Videmanette in
Rougemont, Switzerland, which she left after the Easter term of 1978. The following year she moved
to a flat in Coleherne Court, London. For a while she looked after the child of an American couple,
and she worked as a kindergarten teacher at the Young England School in Pamlico.
Lady Diana was educated first at a preparatory school, Riddles worth Hall at Diss, Norfolk, and
then in 1974 went as a boarder to West Heath, near Seven oaks, Kent. At school she showed a
particular talent for music (as an accomplished pianist), dancing and domestic science, and
gained the school's award for the girl giving maximum help to the school and her schoolfellows.
Lady Diana's parents, who had married in 1954,
separated in 1967 and the marriage was dissolved in
1969.
It was her father, the Earl of Spencer, who mostly brought up Diana. When he became the 8th Earl of
Spencer, he moved the family to AL Thorpe, near Northampton where she lived for the rest of
childhood years. Later his father got remarried to the daughter of famous writer Barbara Cartland.
However there was often disharmony between Diana and her brother, and their new step mother.
Diana was educated at Boarding school, before spending several years at West Heath Public School
in Kent. Here she did very well in sport, especially swimming. She had aspirations to become a ballet
dancer but at 5 feet 8 was deemed to be too tall. On the academic front Diana was not bright and
eventually failed all her O Levels. She later recalled happy memories from her childhood years.
