Facebook algorithm

Goals:
1. Discuss the recent news feed changes and the concept of organic reach in facebook
2. Explain the new facebook algorithm and its main components
3. Identify the three active interactions in the facebook algorithm
Introduction
The Facebook algorithm is constantly
evolving in order to provide a better
experience for users.
Process
They have to pay to play $$$
Facebook news feed
● The news feed is the system through which users are exposed
to content posted on facebook.
● The news feed highlight information that includes
photos,videos,profile changes,upcoming events, birthday,etc..
● The facebook algorithm select a handful of updates to show users every
time they visit their feed.

facebook News Feed
Why the Facebook Algorithm Was Changed
“But recently we've gotten feedback from our community that public content — posts
from businesses, brands and media — is crowding out the personal moments that lead
us to connect more with each other.
It's easy to understand how we got here. Video and other public content have exploded
on Facebook in the past couple of years. Since there’s more public content that posts
from your friends and family, the balance of what's in News Feed has shifted away from
the most important thing Facebook can do — help us connect with each other.”
Mark Zuckerberg

But
The new Facebook Algorithm
In the recent Facebook News Feed webinar,
their team broke the algorithm down into four,
very simple components:
● Inventory (content available)
● Signals (considerations about
content)
● Predictions (considerations about
person)
● Overall Score
Facebook used all sorts of signals to determine which posts would be
shown to users
-Average time spent
on content
-Overall engagement
-When it’s posted
-Story type
-How informative the post
is
-Average time spent
on content
-Overall engagement

-Story type
-How informative the post
is
-Person sharing a link over
Messenger
-Multiple replies to
comments on a video
-Commenting on or linking
a person’s photo
-Engagement with
publisher/brand
Now, the algorithm will use signals that heavily favor “active”
interactions such as comments and shares:
Top ranking factors in the Facebook algorithm
Active(Positive) Passive(Neural)
● Commenting
● Sharing
● Reacting
● Clicking
● Watching
● Wiewing
Conclusion &
What WE can do to succeed on Facebook
● Focus on content that connects like-minded people
● Post content that naturally creates meaningful interactions
● Activate niche communities through Facebook Groups
