Smart TVs include basic operating systems and access to web/streaming content. The market for connected TVs is forecast to nearly double from $68 billion in 2011 to $122 billion in 2016. Many consumers fear the planned obsolescence of expensive TVs tied to cheaper mobile components. Additionally, consumers primarily want to passively consume content on TVs rather than interact, leading to the "10 foot rule" of easy consumption from a distance. Alternatives like set-top boxes, connected DVD players, and video game consoles can provide similar smart features at lower prices.

The document is a comic about nanotechnology that discusses its potential uses and risks. In the comic, a truck driver named Antonio educates his passengers about nanotechnology during a long delivery trip. He explains that nanotechnology involves manipulating materials at the nanoscale between 1-100 nanometers. While it enables new products like self-cleaning glass, nanoparticles may also pose health risks if they enter the body. The comic argues that more research is needed to understand nanotechnology's impacts before widespread use, and that governments and unions should monitor new technologies.

The document discusses Sir Ken Robinson's views on modern education systems. It argues that current education paradigms are outdated, having been designed for the intellectual culture of the Enlightenment and economic needs of the Industrial Revolution. Every country is reforming education to try to prepare youth for 21st century economies and cultures, but they are using past approaches. This risks alienating students who see little purpose in schooling that marginalizes their interests. Standards must be raised, but the system needs reform to develop students in a way that engages their diverse talents and interests.
The document discusses learning in the 21st century and how technology is changing education. It outlines how skills like creativity, collaboration, and communication are important for learning in today's world. New technologies like mobile apps, social media, and e-learning tools can help develop these skills while also optimizing thinking and knowledge building.
The document outlines the process for hosting a Mock Newbery Program, which is designed to encourage community partnership and get students excited about reading quality children's literature. Key aspects of the program include:
1. Establishing a partnership between a school and public library to host the program.
2. Educating students about the history and criteria of the Newbery Medal award and promoting recommended book titles.
3. Having students read books on reading lists each month and participate in monthly book club discussions to nominate their favorite titles to a top ten list.
4. Hosting a culminating Mock Newbery assembly where community members read passages from the top ten books and students vote for the winning title.

The village of Borth in Wales is vulnerable to flooding and erosion due to rising sea levels. The existing coastal defences from the 1970s are deteriorating. Royal Haskoning was commissioned to design improved coastal protection, including breakwaters, rock groynes, and shingle nourishment. The design must be completed by March 2011 to secure government funding. Royal Haskoning is drawing on its extensive experience in coastal protection schemes to help protect this historic Welsh community.
