Subject: Invitation to participate in the Covenant of Mayors Ceremony in the European
Parliament on 4 ' h a y 2010
Dear esteemed Mayor,
Let me first of all thank you, on behalf of the European Commission for the commitment you have
shown on behalf of your city to fight against climate change by joining the Covenant of Mayors.
The Covenant of Mayors has gone beyond our most optimistic expectations. It is now the mainstream
European energy policy instrument, bringing together Mayors and City Councils of more than 1200
cities from the European Union and beyond. You are part of this movement.
On behalf of the European Commission I have the honour o f inviting you t o represent your city
at the Covenant of Mayors Ceremony.
The ceremony is hosted by the European Parliament and organised in partnership with the Committee
of the Regions. It will take place on 4Ih ~a~ 2010 at 14:OO - 16:40 hr at the Hemicycle of the
European Parliament in Brussels in presence of the Mayors of the cities that have signed up to the
Covenant, Covenant Supporting Structures and top representatives of the European Union
institutions.
Given the high number of the Covenant signatories expected to attend, the event will be strictly upon
invitation. This invitation is valid for you (or person you appoint to replace you) and one guest
accompanying you, for instance your Covenant coordinator or media officer/journalist whnse media
coverage will contribute to the visibility of your city's efforts.
