Patents are a good information resource for obtaining IoT (Internet of Things) R&D status in a company. Even if Apple is active in the IoT business (it provides HomeKit home automation platform for helping developers to create new securely connected home automation devices in iOS, and thus, enables users to discover HomeKit accessories in their home and configure them, or create actions to control the devices), there are only a few patents that are directly related to the IoT specific R&D activities. On the other hand, Samsung was found to be very active in patenting of the IoT smart home R&D activities, and Cisco was found to be very active in patenting of the IoT smart grids networks R&D activities. Followings are some examples of patents that provide Apple IoT R&D status.
The document discusses developing a strategically packaged patent portfolio for monetizing patents related to the Internet of Things (IoT). It provides examples of analyzing existing patent portfolios from organizations like Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories and Zetta Research to identify patents relating to connected cars. The document outlines a methodology for understanding IoT technologies through patent analysis, gaining insights into the emerging IoT market also through patents, and developing a strategically packaged portfolio aligned with specific IoT business areas. The goal is to monetize such portfolios through licensing, sales, or other means.

This document discusses standard essential patents (SEPs) and FRAND disputes in the smartphone industry. It provides background on the smartphone patent wars, the role of SEPs in litigation between companies like Apple, Motorola, and Samsung, and issues around FRAND commitments. Specifically, it summarizes that FRAND commitments require SEP holders to license their patents under fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms, but disputes arise because definitions of FRAND terms are unclear and not specified in standards setting organization policies. This has led to courts interpreting FRAND commitments and whether injunctive relief is appropriate for SEPs.
The document discusses the Abadia de Melk, a Benedictine abbey located in Austria. It provides no other details about the abbey's history, architecture, or significance. The second sentence about using a mouse to connect speakers does not seem related to the abbey and provides no context.
The document summarizes a thesis paper about legal and policy issues surrounding standard essential patents (SEPs) in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry. Recent court rulings on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) disputes have implications for the ICT industry. The author analyzes industry responses and potential adverse effects of court resolutions. Alternative methods for resolving FRAND disputes are discussed, including a compromise approach to FRAND royalties and improving voluntary collaboration proposals. The author contends changes are needed to balance arguments from both sides of the disputes.
