In a village far away, there lived a shoemaker and his wife. He worked
so making shoes in order to earn a living. But still, he could not earn
enough. They were still very poor.
At last, he had used up all his materials for making shoes. "I have
leather enough for only one pair of shoes," he said to himself: "I have to
make it the best so that I can sell it at a higher price." That night, he cut
the leather to be made into shoes.

But since it was already late, he decided to make the shoes the
following morning. Then, he said his evening prayer and went to sleep. In
the morning, he eagerly went to his working table But, what a surprise!
There on the table lay a pair of good. looking shoes! "Huh! What
happened? the shoemaker couldn't believe what he was seeing.

The shoemaker gently put the pair of shoes on a stand. As he was
doing so, a customer came in and saw the shoes. He liked them so much
that he paid the shoemaker a large amount of money.
The shoemaker was very happy. He went to the market right away to
buy leather enough for two pairs of shoes In the evening, he cut the
leather and set them aside for the following day.

Once again, the shoemaker went toMthe market right away to buy
leather that would make four pairs of shoes Just like the previous night,
he cut the leather before going to bed. The next morning, he found four
pairs of nicely made shoes. Those were sold immediately and were paid
generously by the customers.

This situation went on for some time. The shoemaker and his wife
were happy about their good future Each night, they thanked God for the
blessings that came their way.
One evening, when the shoemaker was about to go to sleep, he told
his wife that he would like to know who was making the shoes.

"I have an idea," his wife said. "Why don't we stay up late tonight and
find out who has been helping us." So, the couple hid themselves behind
the curtain and waited.
Around midnight, there came two little elves wearing short pants but
without shirts. They started working on the cut out leather.

The shoemaker's eyes grew bigger. He saw the elves
working so fast.
Soon, the elves were able to finish several pairs in a
jiffy. Then, they left as fast as they could.

The couple talked about what they saw "Those little friends made us
rich. We must thank them," said the shoemaker "I know how we can do
it," said the wife "I shall make nice clothes for them.
"And I shall make nice pairs of little boots," said the shoemaker

On the following day, the couple worked on their gifts for their little
friends. As soon as they finished before midnight, they put their gifts on
the working table. Then, they hid themselves behind the curtain
Not long after that, the little elves came. They saw the clothes that
were made by the shoemaker's wife. They smiled and excitedly put them
on.

Then, they tried the boots. They were just perfect! They were very
happy in their new shoes and clothes. They danced around, and in a few
minutes, they left the house.
From that day on, the shoemaker and his wife never saw the elves
again. But their life went well for as long as they lived.
