Solar energy in the Mediterranean: Building integrated photovoltaic and #FOSTErInMED pilot projects. Presentation by Technical Scientific Committee (Mattia Beltramini, Giuseppe Desogus, Francesca Muru and Antonella Trombadore) during territorial animation activities in Italy (FestivalScienze and Sardegna Ricerche).
48. Componenti innovativi
Gli sforzi in atto per ridurre i consumi energetici degli edifici (per primi quelli a
destinazione terziaria) portano allo sviluppo di nuovi componenti da integrare
nell’involucro, quali sottofinestra ventilanti, brise soleil fotovoltaici, ecc.
54. PARTNERS
The Partners involved in the designing and installation of BIPV plants are as
follows:
• PP3: CEEBA (Confederation of Egyptian European
Business Associations) - Egypt
• PP4: IRI (Industrial Research Institute) - Lebanon
• PP5: RSS (The Royal Scientific Society)- Jordan
• PP6: CCI Tunis (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of
Tunis) - Tunisia
• PP7: RAS (Regione Autonoma della Sardegna) - Italy
55. LOCATION
• The building is located in the Egyptian city of Alexandria
near theRamlStation.
• Itwas constructedin 1922.
• The building restoration was done by Prof. Dr. Hesham
Seoudi, dean of the faculty of Fine Arts . He is still the
advisor for the building at theArabContractorsMaintenance
andRestorationof Palaces andMonumentsDepartment
CEEBA - Egypt
56. THE PROJECT
• It is foreseen that the PVwill be integrated in the building
such that it forms an integral part of the building such
as intercepting the direct heat radiationon the roof.
• It is anticipated that the integration will primarily be on
parts of the building roof i.e. the pediment (1) and the
meetingroomroof (2).
• The combined area of (1) and (2) is approximately 246
m²,with an estimatedpower of 20kWp.
• It is foreseen that the PV will intercept the direct heat
radiation on the roof, hence reducing the cooling loads
in themeeting room.

• Lebanese institution for studies, industrial research and
scientific testing and analysis.
• IRI is a not-for-profit institution located in the Lebanese
UniversityCampus .
• An existing PV roof plant is already present on the roof of
the building.
IRI - Lebanon
58. THE PROJECT
The integration options concerns the southern façade of the building
• Replacement of part of the glass windows by PV (1).
• Replacement of steel overhangs by PV (2).
• Integration in the louvered covered wall - roof technical rooms level (3).
• The installed capacity will be at least 17 kWp.
• Estimation of the energy produce will depend on the type of integration and the PV technology
adopted.

59. LOCATION
• The building chosen is the University of Jordan-Aqaba
(JU) building, locatedin the Jordan city ofAqaba.
• A 17kWp BIPV system will be installed on the
skylight of the University of JU.
RSS - Jordan
60. THE PROJECT
• The PV will be integrated in the building such as in
substitution of the existing Skylights and bricks at the
FirstFloor.
• The total area of the 3 skylight is approximately 204 m²,
with the extra area of the bricksavailable.
• The total estimatedpower is around17 kWp.
RSS - JORDAN
61. LOCATION
• The buildingis locatedin the city ofTunis
• .It is owned by the Centre National de Formation de
Formateures et d’Ingénierie de Formation (CENAFFIF) in
• The centre is a training structure and has 314 MWh/year
electricityenergy consumption.
• The building is one floor ground locatedbuilding.

62. THE PROJECT
• The area available is on the flat roof top of some
building.
• The estimatedBIPVpower will be around 20kWp.
• TheBIPVtechnique is still under study.

PROGETTO PILOTA
PALAZZO “AREA” VIA CESARE BATTISTI
senza ostruzioni.
Tutti i fronti SE –SO (sul parcheggio esterno ed interno all’edificio) non presentano ostruzioni
e ombreggiamenti propri o portati.
