This document summarizes the competencies needed for an expatriate to succeed in an emerging market assignment. It lists competencies like having an explorer mindset, accepting unfamiliar situations, demonstrating resilience, understanding local contexts and behaviors, showing empathy and social responsibility, working with local ways of thinking, treating locals as legitimate, developing trust through networks, and becoming an insider through management practices. The competencies were developed based on the author's experience and interviews with successful expatriates in emerging markets.
