Ellis Howarth: "Remnants" #quartweet The idea behind this piece was born out of my tutor’s suggestion that I return to my musical roots, to address a growing writer’s block. My musical life began as a chorister, singing music of the medieval and renaissance periods. These three movements are based on fond yet distant memories of those experiences. Hence the piece’s title - Remnants. To the performers, I ask that this piece be played sempre senza vibrato, and with a purity of tone. All players must play from the full score. I dedicate this piece to the Signum Quartet. And to Guus, for reminding me of ‘the little English choir boy’, whom I had almost forgotten. Duration - 4 mins approx.
