Edward Penkov was a Bulgarian artist known for his enigmatic and complex graphic works. The Vazrazdane gallery is hosting an exhibition of Penkov's work titled "Memory" from January 24th to February 12th, 2017. Penkov created detailed and metaphorical paintings full of unusual forms that leave viewers fascinated yet struggling to solve their meanings. He had a restless mind that visualized complex ideas with ease. Despite their deformations, his works maintained necessary artistic balance. Penkov received numerous awards for his engravings throughout his career before passing away in 2016 at the age of 54 from a stroke.

4. A year ago, Edward Penkov died on 54 years. From severe stroke. He left many
graphics and drawings ... and a little child.
Edward is the author enigmatic, difficult to definitions, very powerful as a
suggestion and a great master of the compositions of exslibris. Acute his
characteristic imagery in the painting makes it easily recognizable and difficult
to solve. A modernized baroque created in his chart wealth of details and forms
carriers of unusual complexity of expression. The author has a complex and
creative imagination is capable of a simple entity to build a philosophy of one
enigma.
Edward Penkov has a restless mind, knows no easy answers, and at the same
time with ease he visualize his ideas and better align viewers tension.
Fantastic moment is cleverly dosed - in most cases - to avoid unnecessary
illustrative and the pressure is well concentrated and subordinate to idea of
each graphic sheet.
Despite the complex deformations and relationships in his work has the
necessary artistic balance and ease of drawing to be a spectator fascinated and
conquered by intelligence metaphorical paintings.

7. Edward Penkov (1962 - 2016) was born on January 7, 1962 in Lovech.
Member of the UBA section Graphics. There are over 10 solo exhibitions and
numerous awards for his engravings - Regional award for graphics of National
Competition "Allianz Bulgaria" (2009), second prize at the International Ex Libris
Competition Ankara (2007), 32nd Exhibition of the International Federation of
bookplate societies (FISAE ) - Beijing, China, in 2008 - award, 1st International
exhibition bookplate invitations FU XIAN ZHAI - Shanghai, China, in 2007 - an
honorary award, the first International Biennial of bookplates - Sofia, Bulgaria,
2003 - sponsorship of the award in. "Trud" and others. Winner of the annual
personal award "Lovech Sword 2002" for valuable achievements in the field of
culture.
In 2016, the International Ex Libris Competition Varna establish a "Special
Award for special artistic achievements" in the name of Edward Penkov.
