Hi Everyone
Our thoughts are with our colleague
Cathy Palmer in Noro whose husband
was very badly injured in a car acci-
dent this week.
We have had some successful pro-
vincial visits with the Hunter H2O
consultant looking at our various
facilities. I think the Strategic Plan is
an exciting time and will help us map
out the future for Solomon Water.
We also visited Gizo to see if we can
assist them with many problems they
have in managing their
water supply.
I am going to be away from Tuesday
for a little holiday and then attend-
ing the Pacific Water Association
conference in Tonga with Scravin
and Frank. It should be very inter-
esting and help us to get a better
understanding of how things work
in other countries in the pacific as
well as meet many of our suppliers
and colleagues from other nations.
I will be back mid to late August.
Debbie will be acting GM and
please give her your full
support and co-operation.

Our Values
Our Mission
This week has been a busy week for the
IT Team as the commissioning of SCADA
Remote Terminal Unit is fast approaching.
SCADA acronym for Supervisor Control and
Data Acquisition System is a technology to
monitor and regulate water flow, track reser-
voir levels and pipe pressure. HunterH2O IT
consultant Mathew Pritchard was here this
week to assist Telekom IT engineers and
Solomon Water IT Team for the configuration
of the SCADA server and client to prepare for
the actual commissioning of the Remote
Terminal Unit (TRU) onsite, a device to trans-
mit data through to the main system. SW IT
Coordinator, Smith Daffe said “we are expect-
ing another consultant from HunterH2O next
week for final analysis and approval of the
current set up before we engage a electrical
contractor to do the final installation of the
RTU onsite on our water system. After the
completion of the set up, our team will ensure
staff responsible is given client access to the
SCADA monitoring and reporting.

Amazing Water Facts
Pure Water (solely hydrogen and
oxygen atoms) has a neutral pH of 7,
which is neither acidic nor basic.
Performance management for all team
leaders, supervisors and co-ordinators has
commenced today.
Speaking at the opening of the training
today Joe Sanga, HR & Communications
Manager said “today marks a milestone
in the history of Solomon Water that a
performance management system is being
developed and will now be implemented”.
“This is a critical link between Company
strategies and individual performance of
staff. With the system in place, all staff will
be able to align their work with corporate
goals of the business. At the end of an
appraisal period, individuals will be able to
see how they add value to Solomon Water.
It is also easy to see what areas they have
not been able to complete and the hurdles
that block progress”.
The young managers were encouraged
to concentrate hard in order to fully
understand the system and help align their respective team’s objectives
to their own. In this way the alignment will be complete and line of
sight clear. This is a project fully endorsed by management and has the
Board’s support.
We are grateful to Augustine Waétara who is the external consultant
helping us out with the system. We also appreciate the HR team, Leon-
ard Meleibla and John Konofilia for the support service they provide to
the workshop.

The charismatic leadership style relies
on the charm and persuasiveness of the
leader. Charismatic leaders are driven by
their convictions and commitment to their
cause.
Charismatic leaders also are sometimes
called transformational leaders because
they share multiple similarities. Their
main difference is focus and audience.
Charismatic leaders often try to make the
status quo better, while transformational
leaders focus on transforming organiza-
tions into the leader’s vision.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a charis-
matic leader who used powerful oratory,
an engaging personality, and unwavering
commitment to positive change in the
lives of millions of people.
Charismatic leadership defined
What sets charismatic leaders apart is that
they are “essentially very skilled commu-
nicators, individuals who are both verbally
eloquent, but also able to communicate
to followers on a deep, emotional level,”
said Ronald E. Riggio, Ph.D., professor of
leadership and organizational psychology
at Claremont McKenna College, in his
Psychology Today article “What is Charis-
ma and Charismatic Leadership?”
Charismatic leaders are often identified in
times of crisis and exhibit exceptional devotion
to and expertise in their fields. They are often
people with a clear vision in business or politics
and the ability to engage with a large audience.
A charismatic leadership definition is incom-
plete if it does not focus on the leader per-
sonally. More than other popular leadership
styles, charismatic leadership depends on the
personality and actions of the leader — not the
process or structure.
Differences between charismatic leadership
and other styles
“Charismatic leadership is a leadership style
that is recognizable but may be perceived with
less tangibility than other leadership styles,”
writes Mar Bell in “Charismatic Leadership
Case Study with Ronald Reagan as Exemplar.”
Charismatic leadership is similar to other
styles. Both it and transformational leadership
rely on the ability of the leader to influence
and inspire followers. Transformational and
charismatic leaders motivate the individual or
those around them to be better and to work for
the greater good of an organization or society.
Other similarities include:
• Leaders rally those around them in service
of a common goal
• Initiative and boldness are encouraged
The differences between charismatic and
transformational leadership styles lie pri-
marily in how the individual is viewed.
• The personal vision of a charismatic
leader has a great deal of influence over
his or her audience
• Charismatic leaders speak about their
moral compass or passion rather than
an existing method of doing business
