- 6. Matthew 28:8-10 (NIV) 8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

- Walking in while beating on chest with a closed fist. “ What have we done? What have we done? Did you see what happened when he died? What have we done? His own people were angry. They were so angry. They kept chanting “Crucify him! Crucify him!” They taunted him. They spit on him. They cursed him. They made him drag his own cross through town. The mocked him as he was being nailed to the cross. Can you imagine the pain of those spikes going through your hands and then through your feet? It makes me week with sickness to even think about how much that hurt or even what that looked like. Why could they not accept his claim to being the son of God? Why did they hate him so much? He performed miracles right in front of them. He made blind men see again? He made men who had not walked in years to get up and go running through the town! He even brought some people back from the very death that we all fear so much? How could he not have been a GOD himself? How did he let this happen? Why did he not bring down his angels and destroy us all for our foolishness? Did you see what happened when he died? Did you see the Vail in the Temple tear? Did you see the sky darken in the middle of the day? Where you there when they crucified my Lord? Where you there when they nailed him to the cross. Were you there when they laid him in the tomb? Were you there when He rose up from the Grave?
- Yes folks, the man we call Jesus Christ rose from the Grave! He is Risen! He is risen! Tell it out with Joyful voice; He has burst the three days prison, Let the whole wide earth rejoice: Death is conquered, we are free, Christ has won the Victory. He is risen! He is Risen! Christ has won the victory! Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks to the risen Lord. Alleluia, Alleluia! Give praise to His Name! During this time the actor portraying Jesus has been kneeling with the cross on his back. He rises to give a short skit with the theme of “I am alive”

- Let’s take a step back for a moment. On Friday evening Jesus was rather hurriedly placed in the tomb and the stone was place in front of it. There was concern that some of Jesus’ followers would try to steal the body and fake a resurrection that Jesus had spoken of. Some of the women that followed Jesus were not allowed to anoint the body before the tomb was sealed and they decided to put off the anointing until the first of the week, because they could not have done so on the Sabbath. So, imagine this scene with me. These women are fussing about all morning, getting together the spices and oils and such they needed to dress the body of Jesus with. They started out on a trail and were walking towards the tomb. As they approached the tomb, there were guards standing there. And there was a sudden earthquake and an angel came down from the heavens. He was shining with a great white brilliance and the guards were so scared they shook and fainted.
- And the angel said unto them. “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Can you imagine their hearts as they looked inside that tomb, only to find some burial clothing and no body? I would imagine at first their hearts sank. Because he was not there. They came to anoint his body, for he had died. They had made these preparations, they had spent some money of the materials they needed and now all of a sudden, their plans had been changed. And then they realized what the angel had said to them. He was alive! He was not there because he was not dead! Now folks, this can be a real shocker. One does not go to a cemetery to find a dead person to be alive. This is just not normal. Now their emotions are changing from a sinking feeling of woe to an elated state. It had to be difficult to accept at first. No one has ever risen from the dead before! How could this be? It is either true or someone has played a cruel joke on them. But it was no grave robbery here. The angel was still there to tell them that Jesus was alive. He also told them that Jesus was headed into Galilee. And they were to go and tell the disciples. I would bet that they were running as fast as they could, don’t you? I know I would be running. Oh the joy of it all. Jesus is alive! Jesus is Alive! Jesus is Alive! Run and tell the disciples. Hurry, hurry, hurry!
- So on their way to town, they run into Jesus. What a sight that must have been. These women saw him die on that cross just the other day! They witnessed him being placed in the tomb. They knew he had died and yet here he was, standing before them and saying hello. They did what anyone would do. They fell at his feet and worshipped him. Their hearts were filled with Joy, fear and astonishment. Then Jesus tells them to go to the disciples and tell them to meet him in Galillee. I would bet that they did not want to leave him. The bible does not say that they begged to stay with him, but I can imagine that they did not want to go. Yet they were obedient and left him to go forth into town to deliver the message.
