In October, 2009, the Coastal Quilters Guild of Santa Barbara & Goleta put on a two
day celebration of aprons with Ellyn Anne Geisel and what a celebration it was. Starting
with a writing workshop during which Ellyn Anne inspired attendees to delve into their
memories and record tales of their aprons, and continuing with several sewing sessions
where aprons were made, both to spec and with creativity, while we joked and chatted,
and an evening talk where Ellyn Anne had us laughing (and sometimes tearing up) for
over two hours as she regaled us with stories of her life and her aprons. Everyone who
attended enjoyed themselves and for weeks after, I heard people telling others how much
they enjoyed the event and that *they should have been there*.
Experiencing Ellyn Anne’s enthusiasm and enjoyment of life is something everyone
should experience and I can only hope that we get to tie one on together again in the
future.
