Father Mychal Judge was a Roman Catholic priest and chaplain of the New York City Fire Department. When he heard that the World Trade Center towers were attacked, he rushed to the scene to comfort and try to save the souls of firefighters. While nearly administering last rites to a dying firefighter, Father Mike removed his helmet to lean closer, knowing he was endangering himself but that safety was not his primary role. The firefighters from the station near his friary recovered his body from the rubble and tenderly laid him at the altar of St. Peter's Church before returning to continue their work at Ground Zero.
