FURNITURE REQUIREMENTS AND
THEIR ARRANGEMENT IN HOME

INTRODUCTION;
Every house and every room in house as certain furniture
requirements. furniture is an expensive item, not possible to change
frequently. even less expensive items, if arranged in artistic manner
may look attractive or vice versa, arrangement does not interfere
with family’s household activity. the furniture arrangement for
different rooms or different as their function different in many
ways.
LIVING ROOM
 The living room should be room for every
member of family.
 It express spirit of home to family and welcome
friends.
 Environment should be pleasing and
welcoming
 It provide for all quiet recreational activities of
family such as reading, conversation, indoor
games,low music…
 If a family has more than two persons
additional area like family room, book room,
study, dining room….
 The furniture should be so arranged that the living room has a
centre of interest.
 A living room comprises of several group areas.
 Two points of emphasis in living room ;
I. The centre of interest
II. principal group of seating
furniture …,thus securing an unified
effect.
MAJOR CONVERSATION
ROOM
 A conversation corner is arranged
with L-shaped sofa, with built in
seats or which sectional seating
units that turn a corner
satisfactoryity, accommodation
several persons seated on each
corner.
 It should have a good lamp and a
near by window along with
bookshelves.
 Specially designed stickball units
such as a television ,record
player…may be combine to save
place.
DINING ROOM
 An attaractive and convenient dining area
can make every meal special .
 It should be a pleasant place in Which to eat,
talk and relax.
 Suitable furniture, flattering lightning,
gracious & efficient service with proper Ventilation,
contribute a comfortable dining area.
 Dining furniture varies with time & place.
 The dining table is focal point of a dining area.
 Standard dining tables are rectangular, square
oval/circle.
 Wood has long been used, polished marble,
glass, plastic tables combine with metal,
bamboo..
 In some rooms the table can
Can be placed against
window With diners facing the
garden.
 Which can be lighted to
make it attractive at
Night.
 A dining room serves other
Purposes also certain cases-
a Study, sewing room,sitting
room,music room….in such
Cases it should be furnishes
with Extension of living
room.
BED ROOM
• A Bedroom express the occupant more
intimately than any other room in house .
• Distinctly a personal one, spend one third
of a life .
• Furnitures promote rest comfortable bed,
readily movable to suit changing conditions.
• For instance, a bedroom may also function
as a study or work room or even living room..
• Bedroom can divide into,
a) master bedroom
b) sitting room
c) children’s bedroom
d) guest bedroom ..
• The best location for dressing /
study table is well lighted near/
in front of window
• Furnishings should be chosen
for comfort, convenience and beauty,it is back background
colours, pattern and texture in walls, floors, window
treatment, bed spreads and upholstery that does the most to
create feeling a comfort and tranquility.
CHILDREN’S ROOM
• To play, pursue their hobbies and entertain.
• furniture placed can easily move around.
• Furniture, furnishings, floor coverings and accessories should
be decorative, practical and economical.
GUEST ROOM
 One type of bedroom (interpersonal)
 No personal photographer in the room and pictures have
general appeal.
 A comfortable bed, well lighted mirror, storage space, a desk
or table, waste basket,bedside table, reading lamp ,books and
chairs.
ENTRANCE HALL
• Transition between exterior
and interior house.
• Important place, give first
and last impression of home.
• A small hall needs only chair,
bench, mirror even small table ,
were large hall with chest of
drawers,table, Sofa are suitable.
• pairs of things give formal effort.
GARDEN ROOMS &
GARDENS
 Garden rooms are summer rooms, spring rooms or
winter rooms.
 The rooms have been an
unused porch area /corridor
 planning a garden room,
glass is an essential element.
 Glass in form of Window
walls, fixed or sliding doors,
two/three sides of room.
FURNISHING SMALL
ROOMS
• A wall storage unit incorporates
with fold down bed, tables.. Could
be space saver
• space is limited
• paint with bright colours
or with natural wood finish.

 Accurate measurement
used in decorating scheme.
 Save time, effort,
arrangement of
furnitures.
 Necessary to take
measurements along
when shopping.
