The Foundation for the Elimination of E. Coli (FEEC) was formed in response to an E. coli outbreak in 1993 that poisoned over 650 people and killed 4. The nonprofit aims to support victims, provide information to the public and officials, and promote prevention through legislation requiring improved testing, reporting, inspection practices, and food safety standards to eliminate E. coli infections. E. coli O157:H7 is a serious bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, kidney failure, and death, especially in young children and the elderly. It is estimated to poison over 220,000 Americans each year.
