The National Capital Region is expanding rapidly and modernizing its transportation infrastructure to accommodate growth. A key project is the Silver Line Metro extension through Tyson's Corner to Dulles Airport, which after 20 years of delays is now under construction. This will allow commuters to travel from Capitol Hill to Dulles Airport and beyond at high speed via rail. Extensive highway systems in Fairfax and Prince George's counties, like the recently completed Springfield Interchange, are also improving regional transportation efficiency and reducing congestion.
The Federal Transit Administration approved the long-awaited extension of Metrorail to Tysons Corner and Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia. The $5.2 billion project will ease congestion and spur economic growth in the region by expanding the regional rail system and offering an alternative to automobile travel. It will also support transit-oriented development along the corridor. The Federal Transit Administration has provided funding to advance the project to the final design phase and for site preparation work, including relocating utilities.

The document discusses proposals to enhance London's transport system, focusing on rail links and services. It proposes supporting more international rail services to a wider range of European destinations and some services stopping at Stratford International station. It also proposes developing more rail freight terminals in or near London to facilitate efficient freight movement, and supporting development of national rail routes that relieve freight passing through London without originating or terminating there. Finally, it discusses proposals around Crossrail, a new east-west rail link across London, noting its importance for accommodating growth and economic development.
The document proposes an urban strategy for Luanda that focuses on infrastructure rather than top-down housing. It sees the existing railway as a way to facilitate natural densification and improve informal settlements. The strategy aims to use the railway and stations as generators for infrastructure like drainage, transportation, water and electricity access that support densification. This approach recognizes the skills and initiatives of local residents and aims to empower informal communities through access to resources rather than large-scale resettlement.
1) The Equinox development is a transit-oriented development project located immediately adjacent to a rapid transit station in Scarborough, Toronto. It contains two 37-storey residential towers with 689 condominium units and retail space.
2) The developer was motivated to capitalize on the site's proximity to frequent transit service and other urban amenities. However, assembling the landlocked site required acquiring adjacent public land.
3) The development has been very successful with strong sales and is seen as exemplary transit-oriented development. It helped stimulate further compact mixed-use development in the area.
The document summarizes five reasons to oppose a proposed rail project: 1) The environmental impact statement is not credible due to unrealistic ridership and energy savings projections. 2) The $5.5 billion cost is too high for a city the size of Honolulu. 3) The project will provide minimal congestion relief and increase in public transportation usage. 4) The elevated railway will create visual and noise blight along its path. 5) The huge costs will preclude spending on other alternatives that could provide more effective congestion relief such as freeway improvements and traffic signal optimization.

This document discusses improving Melbourne's tram and potential light rail network. It notes that while Melbourne's tram system plays a vital role, it is hampered by low speeds and traffic congestion. The document recommends a package of improvements to existing trams including better rights-of-way, increased frequency and capacity, and expanded accessible stops and vehicles. It also suggests developing new light rail routes on corridors like Ballarat Road and Wellington Road/North Road to serve major employment centers and provide faster cross-town connections. Supportive land use planning around transit is also seen as important to maximize the benefits of an improved tram and potential light rail network.
This document provides an overview of four land use and transportation scenarios for Southeast Florida through the year 2060. The scenarios differ in how and where population growth is accommodated, prioritization of transit investments, and adaptation to sea level rise. Scenario maps show proposed walkable, transit-oriented development areas and corridors intended to concentrate growth and support multimodal transportation options. The scenarios also illustrate differences in addressing issues like climate vulnerability, residential density, and reinvestment in historic coastal communities.
This scenario, called "Trend: Staying the Course", models a future where current growth, transportation, and environmental policies continue unchanged. New development sprawls to the edges of cities, consuming farmland. Most development depends on cars, worsening traffic. Sea level rise gradually impacts more low-lying areas. Transit investment is low, and most trips are by car. Housing and transportation costs rise as walkable areas become scarce and expensive. Obesity increases as areas are less walkable. Farmland and natural areas decline while roads and infrastructure expand.
