As a professional athlete, travel is a huge part of my life. With tournaments, sponsor obligations,
and training, I spend up to forty weeks a year on the road. Over the course of my golf career, that
can add up significantly. The Cessna Citation Excel/XLS is spacious enough to bring friends along
for the ride, and the King Air 350i can access shorter runways, bringing me closer to more remote
tournaments. I train hard to be the best professional golfer, and Wheels Up is the most efficient
way to stick to my schedule and advance my career.

But then they walked into the dealership. ...

We’d love to say Mike and Sheila Schneider have been loyal
customers since Prestige Lexus opened 27 years ago. But
that wouldn’t be full disclosure. Actually, they started buying cars
from the dealership before its opening day.
It was 1989, the year the Berlin Wall came down, the year
“She Drives Me Crazy” by the Fine Young Cannibals was on
the radio. Driving down Route 17, the Schneiders decided
on a whim to stop by the brand-new Lexus dealership they
spotted. The fact that the dealership wasn’t yet officially open
didn’t stop its manager, Gary, from greeting them and offer-
ing to show them some vehicles.
They bought three: ES250s for Sheila and their son, and
an LS460 for Mike.
And you’d have to say they’ve been happy with them. After
all, they’ve kept coming back.
A few years after that car-purchase trifecta, Mike fell in love
with the brand-new Lexus coupe that was coming to the U.S.
and immediately ordered one. He was so excited about it that he
flew home from a vacation in California just to pick it up.
The Schneiders love Lexus automobiles, of course—and
what’s not to love? But they also appreciate the superb service
they get at Prestige Lexus, where as Mike says, “people always
go out of their way to help.”
Mike’s favorite moment in more than a quarter-century as a
loyal customer of Prestige? He can’t bring himself to choose one,
such is the stunning consistency of a staff in which, as he says,
“every employee strives to make customers happy.” As for the
folks at Prestige, they’d probably vote for that “before the begin-
ning” visit when they sold one couple three cars.
You couldn’t ask for a better omen than that.

1YOUR OWN DRONE
You probably won’t want your kids to
play with this “toy.” The DJI Phantom 3
Professional 4K quadcopter drone is like
a flying tripod with a stabilized camera,
allowing you to shoot 4K video at up
to 30 frames per second and capture
12-megapixel photos. You can track its
location on a live map and bring it back to
you with the touch of a button. Just stay
away from the White House lawn. $999

6/6S Plus. The fish-eye and wide-angle
lenses are perfect for snapping group
selfies (or photographing landscapes),
while the 10x macro and 15x macro
lenses let you capture crystal-clear close-
ups. You’ll be the talk of Twitter. $79.99
3WAY BETTER THAN BEATS
It’s a tradeoff no more: The new
Sennheiser Momentum on-ear wireless
headphones let you leave the cables
behind and still enjoy the same crisp,
high-def sound. They’re easy on the eyes
too, sporting sleek stainless steel sliders
and super-plush ear cushions. $399.95
4VIRTUAL REALITY BECOMES REAL
The long-awaited Oculus Rift arrives
in July. Prepare to have your visual
cortex hacked. As far as your brain
is concerned, there’s no difference
between experiencing something on this
revolutionary virtual-reality headset and
experiencing it in the real world. There’s
not much more to say, except that it’s
Windows-compatible only. $599
5SOUND SHOWCASE
Estelon takes speaker design to a
new level with the Extreme, a tower-
ing (more than six-and-a-half-feet!),
curvaceous sculpture that delivers rich,
dynamic, immersive sound. Close your
eyes and you’ll think you’re listening to a
live performance. $260,000 a pair
6NOW THAT’S A WINE OPENER
Want to have a glass of wine without
committing to the whole bottle? You
can—with the Coravin Model Two Wine
System, which lets you pour wine with-
out removing the cork! A thin, hollow
needle passes through the foil and cork;
the bottle is pressurized and the wine
pours. Afterward, the cork reseals itself
and what’s left in the bottle never comes
in contact with oxygen. It just may trans-
form the way you drink wine. $349.95
7STEALTH SECURITY
You will sleep better at night—and
worry less during the day—knowing
that the Amaryllo iCamPRO FHD is on
duty in your home. The security camera
tracks moving objects (read: intruders)
and monitors sound, sending you a text
message (and taking a snapshot) when
the motion or audio sensors are trig-
gered. And, thanks to its 360 degrees of
rotation, you can place it anywhere in a
room and maintain the correct viewing
angle. $249.90

set of speakers, but you’ll
probably want one of
these cool picks.

genre bendersReinterpreting traditional styles and borrowing freely from the past,
these artists are making music that sounds bang up to date. Together
they provide the perfect soundtrack for a summer drive. By Mark Dowden
Bloody Yes! Sunday brunch at my place has two requirements: Bloody Marys and music. Some-
times the mood calls for Billie Holiday or Bach, but when I have a high-energy crowd and want to encourage danc-
ing, I go for the musical equivalent of Tabasco. A playlist like this one fills the bill.
Dawes
Just as there was no performing art-
ist named Marshall Tucker (or Lynyrd
Skynyrd for that matter), the band
Dawes has no member of that name.
Their debut album brought them instant
notice for reviving the Laurel Canyon
sound of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne
and Crosby, Stills & Nash. But Dawes
front man Taylor Goldsmith says he and
his mates had no such goal. Rings true,
as Dawes’ chill stylings are unstudied,
uncommercial and fresh.
The album: All Your Favorite Bands
Go-to song: the title track,
with Goldsmith’s perfect lyrics
Deeper dives: “To Be Completely Honest”
and “Now That It’s Too Late, Maria”
The album: Lola
Go-to song: “Perfidia.” Love
that steel guitar.
Deeper dives: “Llano Es-
tacado,” a Spanglish-inflected
track from Lola, and “Whiskey
Runs Thicker Than Blood” from
the album Give Me All You Got
The album: Bring It Back
Go-to song: “Aged and Mellow”
Deeper dives: “Lucille,” written by
her father, who was Louis Armstrong’s
music director, and “After the Lights
Go Down”
Carrie Rodriguez
Raised to play classical violin, Texas native Carrie Rodriguez used
to have no interest in singing. That changed some years ago, and
the 37-year-old went on to success as a singer-songwriter of roots
music. She finds full voice on the new album Lola, which contains
half a dozen original songs, plus five Mexican folk tunes of the
genre known as ranchera. Among these is “Perfidia,” which
was a pop hit for dozens of American artists in the 1940s and
’50s. Her version, sung in Spanish, is the perfect update.
Nathaniel Rateliff
Growing up in rural Missouri, Nathaniel Rateliff taught himself guitar and
began to write songs as a teenager. He earned critical praise for early
albums and toured with Dr. Dog and The Lumineers in 2013, but
it wasn’t until 2015 that he broke out with the self-titled album,
Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. The infectious, rollicking
single “S.O.B.” was conceived by Rateliff as a kind of call-and-
response tune in the Gospel tradition, but its narrator seems more
at home in a dive bar than a church choir.
The album: Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats
Go-to song: “S.O.B.” Like the man says, give me a drink!
Deeper dives: “Howling at Nothing” and “Look It Here”
Amy Winehouse
Catherine Russell
A member of David Bowie’s band, Catherine Russell pitched in on guitar, keyboards, percussion and
background vocals. After Bowie stopped touring in 2004, Russell concentrated on a solo career as a jazz
and blues singer. She has consistently delivered a new album every two years, and does an especially
fine job of reviving old standards. That’s her singing “Crazy Blues” on the soundtrack of Boardwalk
Empire. On her latest album, Russell goes large with a swinging 10-piece band.

Whether you’re a nostalgia buff, a car-racing
enthusiast or simply a connoisseur of fine engi-
neering, there’s nothing like an auto show. So mark
your calendar for June 11 and 12!
That’s when the Ramapo Concours d’Elegance will

Last year, the Ramapo Concours d’Elegance saw
more than 750 attendees on the college campus
and raised nearly $40,000 for Ramapo College and
Hackensack University Medical Center. This year,
the Concours celebrates the art and engineering of
significant cars by select marques from the collections
of local and regional collectors, placing a special em-
phasis on 100 years of BMW. The car classes are: Rare
BMW Models; Early BMW Motorcycles; BMW 2002;
New and Vintage BMW M cars; ’60s American Muscle
Cars; Retired Race Cars; Rally Cars; Lamborghinis;
Ferraris; and Microcars. Distinguished judges will
award prizes for Best in Show as well as Best in Class

About Ramapo College of New Jersey,
Mahwah, New Jersey
Ranked by U.S. News & World Report fifth in the
Best Regional Universities North category for public
institutions, Ramapo College of New Jersey is said to
resemble a private college. That’s partly because of its
unique interdisciplinary academic structure, its size
(about 6,000 students) and its pastoral setting in the
foothills of the Ramapo Mountains on the New Jersey/
New York border.
The college’s mission focuses on four “pillars”
of a Ramapo education: international, intercultural,
interdisciplinary and experiential (hands-on), all of
which are incorporated throughout the curricula and
extracurricular offerings. The school’s international
mission is fulfilled with a wide range of study abroad
and student exchange links with institutions all over
the world. Internships and co-op and service learn-

legal community for producing top-quality
attorneys with outstanding leadership qualities.
In fact, four of its former members have been
appointed as Superior Court judges in the
State of New Jersey.
Weiner is renowned for his handling of
sensitive, complex divorce matters. In 2015, the
Best Lawyers publication named Weiner one of
the five individuals honored as “Family Lawyer
of the Year” based on his particularly high level
of peer recognition. He recently completed a
six-year term as the sole representative from
Bergen County to the Statewide Judicial and
Prosecutorial Appointments Committee. He
is also a past President of the Bergen County
Bar Association (BCBA). For several years, New
Jersey Magazine has named Weiner to its list of
the Top 100 Lawyers in New Jersey.
Salerno, also a BCBA past President,
was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme
Court to the Committee on Character. He is
regularly appointed by the Courts in the State
of New Jersey to serve as Discovery Master,
Arbitrator and Mediator in high profile,
complex litigation matters. Salerno also
handles a variety of corporate and commercial
transactions and represents a number of
municipalities and private clients before
zoning and planning boards.
Bremer is equally adept in both family
and criminal law. He is highly regarded by the
local judiciary and is a Certified Criminal Trial
Attorney and a former member of the Bergen
County Prosecutor’s Office.
Barry L. Kaufman, who joined the firm
in June 2015 as a Partner, has been practicing
family law for 35 years. He excels in complex
divorce matters and serves as a Court appointed
and privately retained mediator and arbitrator.
Often appointed by Courts in matters of high-
conflict and difficulty, Kaufman prides himself

ursuing stratospheric dreams of success requires vision,
passion and determination. These qualities are what
drive the Prestige Performance Team and Lamborghini
Paramus as they compete in the Lamborghini Blancpain
Super Trofeo race series.
The one-make Super Trofeo series is organized on three
continents—Asia, Europe and North America. In the North
American series, the annual season consists of five races in the
U.S., culminating in the world final, which this year will be
held in Valencia, Spain.
Lamborghini encourages its dealers to participate in Super
Trofeo racing, and the Lamborghini Paramus–Prestige Per-
formance Team is one of the most active dealer-owned teams
in North America. Prestige fields two full-time teams with
professional and skilled amateur drivers. They’re managed by
Mark Juron, vice president of Prestige Management Services.
“Racing is a ballet with a 200 mile-per-hour machine,” says
Juron. “The wheels hardly touch the ground.”
One key to success has been Prestige’s partnership with
Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR). Lamborghini Paramus
runs the race team and owns the cars, and WTR performs
the day-to-day mechanical service. “They have extensive
relationships in racing and have won multiple champion-
ships,” Juron explains, “such as the Grand-Am Prototype
Championship in 2005 and 2013. WTR is more than a
vendor, they’re a business partner.”
Why race? “Prestige’s main goal is to showcase its commit-
ment to customers,” says Juron. “We want customers to know
that our business isn’t just about transactions. It’s understand-
ing our customers’ true automotive passions and bringing
them to fulfillment.”
Getting customers interested in the team hasn’t been
difficult. Nearby races like the one at Watkins Glen in
New York’s Finger Lakes region generate a lot of excite-
ment. “People who are into performance vehicles like
Lamborghinis identify with racing, and that overarches all
the brands we have at Prestige,” Juron says. “Running the
race team is a way of extending our reach, of letting people
know our level of passion about performance.”
What’s great about the Super Trofeo Series is its accessibil-
ity: Anyone who owns a Lamborghini is eligible to race. First,
though, it’s a good idea to train with the best. Programs like
Lamborghini Esperienza and Lamborghini Accademia help
prepare new drivers to enter the racing world. Lamborghini
Esperienza is a program designed to teach new drivers the
vehicle’s limits (and their own) in areas such as proper corner-

ing and sharpening reaction times. In Lamborghini
Accademia, one driver shares race techniques with a
two-person class on the world’s most demanding tracks.
And for those who show talent and acquire the necessary
skills, the Super Trofeo Series is where amateurs can
compete in a great first-race experience. Super Trofeo is
part of the Lamborghini Squadra Corse, which offers an
integrated approach to Lamborghini driving experiences.
The Squadra Corse also includes Lamborghini GT3 for
more experienced drivers and a customer-driving pro-
gram. Paramus Lamborghini and Prestige Performance
are here to provide a full-service experience for the racing
enthusiast, and even if you just want to be a spectator,
you’ll have the experience of a lifetime!
The Prestige team consists of three drivers: one in
the Pro series, Shinya Michimi, and the other two in
the Pro-Am, Dr. Craig Duerson and Trent Hindman.
The drivers spend each day focused on tenths of a
second and making every turn as tight as it can be.
Hindman, who is only 20 years old, says he’s honored
to be working with Prestige and driving with Duerson.
He credits his great support network for how he’s
moved up in the racing world so quickly.
“My life revolves around the sport. You live it; you
breathe it,” says Hindman. “Ultimately, it comes down
to the fact that I’m a car guy, and you know any car guy’s
dream is to be racing.” Hindman may be young, but he
has some pretty sage advice for aspiring race car drivers:
“A lot of young guys need to keep in mind that racing is
a business. While our job is to drive cars and win races,
driving is part of a bigger picture. You have to be versatile
off the track; you have to provide good value to your
sponsors, to the people supporting you.”
Adds Hindman, “Whatever you do in or out of
the car is going to directly reflect on your sponsors,
your manufacturers, your team and you. So when
something doesn’t go right, and it affects you and your
team, you just have to keep your cool and maintain
your professionalism and keep driving forward.”
The team’s 2016 goal is simple: to win. “I’m not into
being second,” Juron stresses. “We want to win the Pro
and Pro-Am series. Our priorities are safety, teamwork,
and winning races and championships.”
The crew typically involves 15 people plus Juron
and Lamborghini Paramus’ Chief Operating Officer
Christopher Turner. Says Juron, “The car that wins
isn’t always the best car, but the one that has the best
team and strategy putting themselves in position to
win.” And that’s exactly where the Prestige team aims
to be at the big dance this fall—the Super Trofeo
World Final in Valencia, Spain.

attacking the track
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
(April 29–May 1, Monterey, California)
This unrelenting 11-turn course is 2.2 miles
long, with a 180-foot elevation change. Its
signature turn is the downhill-plunging
Corkscrew, one of the most infamous chal-
lenges in the racing world. It’s here where
cars moving at breakneck speeds dip 109
feet—that’s more than five stories!—mak-
ing drivers feel like they’re dropping off the
edge of the world.
Watkins Glen International
(June 29–July 1, Watkins Glen, New York)
Known for hosting the Formula One U.S.
Grand Prix and NASCAR races, The Glen
is the birthplace of American sports-car
racing. The 3.4-mile, 11-turn track boasts
two configurations, both of which require
precision driving and steady nerves
thanks to the course’s 141-foot elevation
change, from the end of the Inner Loop to
the toe of The Boot.
Road America
(August 5–7, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin)
Once called “the best test of road racing in
America,” this beloved course has main-
tained its configuration at 4.04 miles in
length and 14 turns since opening in 1955.
The Kink is Road America’s legendary and
highly treacherous corner, an intimidating
stretch where drivers must navigate an
unforgiving curve while hurling at triple-
digit speeds.
Boston
(September 2–4)
The Super Trofeo Series joins an exciting
and unique racing lineup for the inaugural
Grand Prix of Boston, including the Verizon
IndyCar Series, Stadium Super Trucks Series
and the Mazda Indy Lights Series. Up to
25 cars will race the challenging 11-turn,
2.2-mile temporary street circuit that winds
its way through Boston’s historic Seaport
Waterfront area over Labor Day weekend.
Circuit of the Americas
(September 14–16, Elroy, Texas)
Situated on 1,500 acres outside of down-
town Austin, this 3.41-mile racetrack
opened in 2012 and was designed to push
drivers and their cars to the limit. The cor-
ners are tight and the apexes are blind. The
track’s signature corner is Turn 1, a hairpin
turn with a dramatic 133-foot elevation
change that’s not for the faint of heart.

The Land Rover Defender has long been coveted
for its classic, rugged styling and near indestruc-
tibility. The vintage, British-made, off-road utility
vehicle—you might call it the original SUV—looks
as cool cruising city streets as it does bush-whack-
ing through untamed savannahs and up-country
terrain. Classic Defenders have traditionally been
hard to come by in the U.S., but a firm called Arkonik has changed that.
From its base in England’s West Country, Arkonik seeks out Defenders in
the U.K. and Europe, lovingly restores them to meet the requirements of its
customers and delivers them all over the world. Arkonik was born in 2007 in
CEO Andy Hayes’ driveway, where he repaired and sold Defenders to U.K.
buyers. The company grew to market the vehicles throughout Europe and
North America. Prestige Land Rover is one of only two dealerships in North
America to partner with Arkonik, proudly offering the classic styling and
robust performance of the Defender to American drivers.
“It really started with Andy’s driving around with his two kids in the back,
going off-roading, camping and doing everything that the Defender, an adven-
ture utility vehicle, enables one to do,” says Thomas Parry, Arkonik’s sales di-
rector. What began as one man’s passion has grown into a team of 40 Defender
enthusiasts dedicated to bringing the legendary off-roaders back to life.
Make no mistake: The Defender is legendary, and with good reason. The
model has been owned by the likes of Sean Connery and the Queen of Eng-
land. Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey. Fidel Castro and Ralph Lauren.
Recently, on-again off-again Kourtney Kardashian
beau Scott Disick posted a photo to Instagram of a
custom Arkonik Defender sold by Prestige.
It’s not just pop culture, but performance that
provides the Defender with its reputation. Just a
year after its creation in 1948, one of the vehicles
was driven from England to Ethiopia. In 1955, six
students drove two Land Rovers from London to Singapore and back, for an
astounding total of 32,000 miles.
Expeditions aside, how does one join the ranks of these Defender-lovers?
Initially, a client goes to the Arkonik website and configures what he or she
wants in a Defender, and then receives a quote. From this point, it’s 18 to 20
months before the client takes delivery on a bespoke vehicle.
During this time, Arkonik sources a Defender on the client’s behalf and
performs a 10-week, bare-chassis restoration that will render what is basically
a better-than-new vehicle. It’s all about attention to detail. “We’ll never get to
the point of mass production; it’s not something we’d like to do,” says Parry.
“Maybe in a year’s time, we’d get up to build seven or eight units a month,
but we’d never get bigger than that. We’re probably one of the only automo-
tive manufacturers in the world where no vehicle leaves until the CEO signs
off on that vehicle.”
Somewhere across the Pond, your own Defender is waiting. To explore
acquiring it, contact Servet Acar at Prestige Land Rover of Paramus at
201.745.0003 or sacar@driveprestige.com.
Luxury and adventure on four big wheels: With exacting
attention to detail, Arkonik painstakingly refurbishes vintage
Land Rover Defenders in England for the American market.
The process is part restoration, part modernization to meet U.S.
emissions and safety standards, and part bespoke coachwork.
Each Defender is rigorously road tested before being transported
to the Port of Southampton to be shipped to its new owner.
Prestige Land Rover of Paramus is one of only two dealerships in
North America to partner with Arkonik.

Constant innovation has been at the core of BMW for 100 years.
The BMW 328 Mille Miglia Trouser Crease Roadster (pictured at
top crossing the finish line at the first Italian Mille Miglia Grand
Prix in Brescia, April 28, 1940) was one of just three cutting-edge
roadsters built for the race, complete with Bügelfalte (trouser-
crease) fenders. The beauty was tested on the autobahns near
BMW’s Munich headquarters and was driven by Count Giovanni
Lurani and Franco Cortese to a sixth-place finish. Center, BMW
began selling automobiles in 1928. Bottom, driver Hubert
Hahne’s BMW 2000 TI set lap records and placed first at the
Nürburgring Trophaë in 1966.
No matter what business you’re in, it’s a chal-
lenge to remain popular. But what about
after 25 or 50 or even 100 years? In the case of
BMW, 100 years is precisely the milestone that’s
clicked by on the company’s odometer in 2016.
The luxury car manufacturer has managed not
only to preserve its century-long legacy of qual-
ity and innovation, but also to show a commit-
ment to continually improving on it.
To mark the anniversary, BMW is celebrat-
ing with events such as the “100 Masterpieces”
exhibition at the BMW Museum, the BMW
Festival in September and the Centenary Event
in Munich, at which the carmaker unveiled its
BMW Vision Next 100 concept car. So, on this
momentous occasion, let’s take a look at the
iconic German brand—past, present and future.
The Past
In 1916, two aircraft-engine manufacturers—
Gustav Flugmaschinefabrik and Rapp
Motorenwerke—merged to form Bayerische
Flugzeug-Werke, or BFW (in English, Bavar-
ian Aircraft Works). In March of that same year,
Austrian engineer Franz-Josef Popp trans-
DRI.ss16.BMW.indd 55 4/27/16 11:14 AM
58. formed the company into Bayerische Motoren Werke
GmbH…or BMW. Since that time, March 7, 1916 has
been recognized as the carmaker’s official birthday.
Over the coming decades, BMW moved through
several incarnations, manufacturing engines for aircraft,
farming equipment, trucks and boats. The company
then launched into creating motorized bicycles before
making its first car in 1928. It’s largely this spirit of
metamorphosis, this willingness to shift and adopt
innovations and embrace change, that has made BMW
such a force in the automotive world.
The Present
Since opening its first U.S. dealership in 1978, BMW
has become the world’s leading seller of luxury auto-
mobiles. The company offers 100 different models, with
varying styles, engines and appointments. But it’s more
than variety that motivates drivers to choose BMW.
“The way the car feels, and the feedback the driver
gets, are key,” says Fernando Cerquiera, general sales

of-the-art CAD technology to design the body, BMW invested around
$1 billion to develop the 8 Series. Center, right, the first genera-

always hear from customers. They love the way
the car handles, the way it corners and turns, the
way it brakes and accelerates.”
And of course, technological advancement
continues to play a part in the brand’s success,
just as it always has. “In the 7 Series, there are
eight or nine functions that you can utilize in
the car just by gesturing with your hand. Things
like raising and lowering the audio volume or
answering a call,” notes Cerquiera.
The Future
As BMW looks ahead to its second century, in-
novation will continue to be key. “Even the way
we interact with cars is changing, and BMW is
going to drive that forward—but it won’t just
happen in the car,” Cerquiera says. “You’ll see
it happen even in the home and trickling down
into everything you do, like parking the i3 with
a command from your iWatch. The company is
going to change the way mobility works for all of
its customers, and it’s going to be a very bright
future.”
Given BMW’s legacy and forward-thinking
quest for excellence, the future holds amazing
possibilities, as the company continues to dream
up cars for drivers who appreciate style, perfor-
mance and dependability in equal measures.
The BMW i8, top, is a plug-in hybrid sports car with gorgeous but-
terfly doors and a shark-nose grille. The car uses eDrive technology
to combine the efficiency of an all-electric motor and the power of
a TwinPower Turbo engine for an exhilarating driving experience

61. M3
Lightweight
(E36)
According to legend, only
125 M3 Lightweights were
ever built and only 116 sold
to the public. Designed to
give the Porsche 911 a run for
its money on the race circuit,
this model—which only came
in Alpine White and featured
the checkered flag motif on
the bonnet and wing cor-
ner—arrived from the factory
with special racing modifica-
tions in the trunk which, if
installed, immediately (and
needless to say) voided the
new car warranty.
2002 Turbo
A forced-induction version of
the 2002tii, the 2002 Turbo
is believed by many to be
the best driver’s car of all
time. It was developed by
BMW Motorsport based on
previous experience with tur-
bocharging and supercharg-
ing in racing applications.
Its quirky, dynamic design is
unrivaled and was praised
by those car-loving chaps at
Top Gear, who, in a gushing
review, referred to the model
as simply “immaculate.”
3.0 CSL
“Batmobile”
Introduced in May 1972,
this 1974 model was built
to make the car eligible in
the European Touring Car
Championship. BMW’s de-
signers made the car lighter
by using thinner steel to
build the unit body, deleting
the trim and soundproofing,
and using aluminum alloy
doors, bonnets and boot
lids. The full aero package
earned the racing CSL the
nickname “Batmobile.” This
example is one of only three
produced in Golf Yellow.
1988 Lime Rock Edition
M3 Replica
When BMW Motorsport took the stalwart 3
Series and made it wider, lighter, lower and
more powerful, the result was the iconic M3.
Then BMW upped the ante, designing an M3
with a stiffer chassis and racier engine—the
legendary E30 M3. Working in the same
engineering-obsessed tradition, Prestige
Performance Center transformed this 1988
E30 M3 into a tribute to the 2013 E92 Lime
Rock Edition M3, which can be seen at right.
While most tributes are a build of the classic
version of the same vintage, ours takes a
1988 car and pays homage to its latter-day
successor. This classic M3 sports Fire Orange
paint, cloth interior, black competition wheels,
updated brakes, a carbon fiber roof and a few
modifications that make its twin-cam 16-valve
racing-derived engine even more of a goer.
Lime Rock
Edition M3 Coupe
Here’s one that’ll make the
hearts of rare car collectors
collectively beat a bit faster,
as only 200 cars were pro-
duced in 2013. Named after
the famous race track in
Lakeville, Connecticut, this
beauty features a full com-
petition package, to which
the Prestige Performance
Center crew added Stage 2
racing software, high-low
exhaust and other go-fast
upgrades. Producing 527
bhp/407 lb-ft of torque, this
limited edition M3 is guar-
anteed to satisfy anyone’s
need for speed.

like a bull that has just slipped

captured the image, which
was chosen as best in show

The alluring mystique of Lamborghini and McLaren sports cars
was captured by photographer Austin White against the gritty vin-
tage backdrop of the Prestige Warehouse. Clockwise from top left
are the Lamborghini Huracán 580-2 (note the glow of the taillights
reflecting off the rear wall), the McLaren 570S, the Lamborghini
Huracán Spyder and the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster.
On a recent Saturday, Lamborghini Paramus
and the soon-to-open McLaren Bergen
County invited a select group of automotive
bloggers, photographers and writers to spend
some quality time with the Prestige Family
Exotic Cars Collection. The venue was the
Prestige Warehouse in Mahwah, New Jersey, an
industrial space that started out as an “ex-
perimental foundry” in 1943. On stage was a
star-studded cast of vehicles, both vintage and
current, including the all-new Lamborghini
Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder and Lamborghini
Huracán 580-2.
“This annual event brings together people who
are passionate about automobiles,” notes Jeffrey
Drajin, general sales manager of McLaren Bergen
County. “It’s a treat for us at Prestige, because all
of our invited guests share our same passion. Not
only does the event produce social media buzz, it
also generates real art for the individual photogra-
phers and their enthusiastic followers.”
The image you see on the previous spread,
a Lamborghini Aventador captured by photog-
rapher Austin White (austinwhitephotos.com),
was declared best in show. “Every car event I’d
ever been to was held to show cars to the public
or to serve as a press conference,” says White.
“This was different. The purpose of the event
was to let photographers and writers who are
car enthusiasts do their thing, no strings at-
tached. I loved it!”
White’s passion for the beauty and speed of
these exotic rides is plain when he talks about
the event. “Take Lamborghini and McLaren, for
example: All of the cars they make are beauti-
fully sculpted yet amazing perfomers as well,”
he says. “I wanted to take a unique angle that
stood out from everyone else’s. For me, the light
coming in through the windows and doors,
contrasting with the dark warehouse, is what
really sets this image apart.” More of White’s
photography from the Prestige Warehouse
appears at right.

77. Chef Magnus Nilsson
Fäviken Magasinet, Fäviken, Sweden
directions
Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a 12-inch heavy skillet over medium-
low heat. Add onions and cook, stirring constantly, until translu-
cent (do not brown), 10–12 minutes. Add stock and ¾ cup water.
Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, cover and continue to sim-
mer until onions are falling apart, about 20 minutes. Uncover and
stir until onions are almost dry (do not brown), about 5 minutes.
Transfer onions to a blender. Add buttermilk and 1 tablespoon
water. Purée until smooth. Season with kosher salt.
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Arrange a wire rack inside a rimmed
baking sheet. Melt 2 tablespoons butter with oil in a large cast-
iron skillet or large heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Sea-
son steak generously with kosher salt. Cook until a deep brown
crust forms, 3–4 minutes per side and 1–2 minutes on edges.
Place on prepared rack. Roast until a thermometer inserted into
steak registers 115ºF. (Steak will carry over to medium-rare.)
Let rest for 30 minutes.
Melt remaining 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over
medium-high heat; cook until butter browns, about 2 minutes.
Add steak and cook for 30 seconds per side, allowing steak to
absorb butter. Cut steak into 4 slices. Place 1 steak slice on
each plate and sprinkle with sea salt. Spoon warm onion purée
alongside. Scatter herbs over purée.

ter, divided

chervil)
Getting a seat at The Mind of a Chef star Magnus Nilsson’s restaurant takes a bit of effort. The
highly acclaimed Fäviken Magasinet is located in an 18th-century barn on 24,000 acres of
hunting grounds in northern Sweden, only 200 miles south of the Arctic Circle. And it’s not just the
journey that makes dining here difficult: The small space can accommodate only 12 guests a night,
so you can imagine the wait list. But, critics say, it’s worth it. Nilsson’s contemporary interpretation
of Scandinavian cuisine is both theatrical and avant-garde, focusing on local ingredients, including
fish caught by the man himself. Last summer, Nilsson surprised his fans when he bought a camp-
ervan and turned it into a hot dog stand, which he runs out of “places that seem like fun.”

Cook the buckwheat in boiling water for 8 minutes.
Drain and set aside.
Clean the prawns by removing the heads and peeling
off the shells. Devein the prawns by cutting down the
back of each and scraping the black vein out with a
small knife. Dice the prawn meat and set aside.
Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Add the shallot, garlic and thyme, and sauté until
softened and transparent. Add the buckwheat and stir
to combine well. Add all of the stock and cook until the
buckwheat is tender. Add the prawn meat and stir well
to combine. Cook for 1 minute, then remove from the
heat. Add the butter, mustard, mascarpone and tarra-
gon. Season with salt and pepper and stir to combine.
Spoon into a bowl and serve immediately.

Martin Benn somehow managed to make it through almost two decades as a relatively
unknown chef in Australia. In 2009, he opened Sepia, and his artfully prepared and playful
Japanese-inspired seafood dishes became the little secret of the people lucky enough to visit the
new restaurant. Last year his cookbook, Sepia: The Cuisine of Martin Benn, caught the attention
of celebrity chef Eric Ripert, who invited Benn to cook on his television show Avec Eric. Since the
show aired, Benn has earned fame in the culinary world. His French technique and experience
in Japanese cuisine allows him to take full advantage of fresh Australian seafood, which he serves
in an Art Deco-inspired setting that is as light and unpretentious as the food enjoyed there.

80. Chef Vicky Lau
Tate Dining Room, Hong Kong, China
Only in her mid-30s, Vicky Lau has achieved success most chefs only dream of in their
lifetimes. In 2015 she was named Veuve Clicquot Asia’s Best Female Chef, and her
Hong Kong restaurant, Tate Dining Room and Bar, earned a Michelin star the first year
it opened. Her menus are designed to be “edible stories” with each dish—or chapter—
adding another layer of complexity to the meal. Likewise, Lau’s career is a collection of
vignettes: Her journey to Japan inspired her focus on matcha and other Japanese flavors,
and her background in graphic design is evident in her artistically presented dishes, includ-
ing most famously, a dessert crafted to resemble a Zen garden.

For Consommé:
In a blender, purée all the ingredients except fish
sauce until smooth.
Transfer mixture to a heavy-bottom stock pot set
over medium heat. Stir constantly until it starts to
simmer, then stop stirring. Simmer for 45 minutes—
watch closely so that it does not come to a boil.
Take the pot off the heat and strain mixture through
a fine cheesecloth. Add fish sauce to finish.
For Botan Ebi:
Rinse shrimp thoroughly in ice water. Pat dry and
cut into small pieces. Gently mix with chives and
lime zest.
Place a ring mold in the center of a bowl and fill
with a spoonful of the shrimp. Layer a small tea-
spoon of caviar on top and remove the mold slowly.
Garnish the top with a sea urchin sliver. Slowly pour
the consommé, filling the sides of the bowl. Serve

seeds removed and
thinly sliced cross-wise
It’s been less than a year since Gabriela Cámara moved across the Mexican border to bring
her celebrated seafood dishes to San Francisco with the opening of her new restaurant, Cala,
last fall. Although new to the States, Cámara is no stranger to the culinary world—her Mexico
City restaurant, Contramar, received praise from U.S. food critics and chefs, including Alice
Waters. Cámara’s success comes from her focus on local and sustainable fish (“Cala” is Spanish
for “creek”) as well as her fresh tortillas, which she makes daily from scratch. The restaurant’s
coastal wines and agave-based cocktails are the perfect complements to Cámara’s famously
light, creative dishes; dishes that have earned Cala its instant popularity.

84. This beachy bastion
of celebrities is gaining new fame for
the wines it produces. By Josh Sens
I
n the early 1980s, while working
as a studio musician in Nashville,
Elliott Dolin did his share of Cali-
fornia dreaming. But those reveries
involved the Beach Boys, not buttery
chardonnay.
“All I pictured was fun, fun, fun,
with lots of surf and sunshine,” says
Dolin, 65. “Wine wasn’t even in the
back of my mind.” By the middle of
the decade, though, Dolin had left be-
hind his life as a versatile bass player,
recording with such legends as Johnny
Cash and John Prine. He’d embraced
a new existence in Los Angeles, where
he took a job as a real estate broker
and fell in with a group of wine
enthusiasts.
Over regular business luncheons,
Dolin saw his wine horizons widen.
His palate sharpened. A passion
developed.
In 1998, he and his wife Lynn
moved to Malibu, the upscale sea-
meets-mountains city just north of
Santa Monica. Now better known
around the world as an affluent hide-
away for celebrities, Malibu was once
recognized as a bright star in the wine
world—it welcomed its first vineyards
in the early 1800s. Though most
of those vineyards were lost during
Prohibition, the climate and the soil
remained ideal for grape growing.
The Dolins understood that
promise when they planted 900 vines
of chardonnay on a small, southward-
facing plot behind their home. Their
first year of production, in 2009, was
a bootstrapping test run, carried out
at a custom-crush facility just up the
coast. The result was so successful that
the couple upped their ante, hiring a
respected winemaker from the Santa
Ynez Valley to help fine-tune their op-
eration. Mission accomplished. Their
second release, a 2010 Dolin Malibu
Estate Vineyards chardonnay, won
a coveted Double Gold Medal from
the San Francisco Chronicle, beating
out such iconic Napa Valley labels as
Rombauer and Cakebread.
“Before you knew it we’d made that
leap from ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be nice to
have a vineyard?’ to ‘Let’s try to make
a serious go at this,’” Dolin says.
Not that Malibu wines were a slam-
dunk sell.
“When people think Malibu, they
tend to think of movie stars and
celebrities in big homes by the beach,”
Dolin says. “But I always say if you
turn your back to the beach you’re
staring up at the mountains, and that’s
an entirely different side of Malibu.”
Joining forces with other Malibu
vintners, the Dolins worked to raise
the profile of a region whose temper-
ate coastal climate and volcanic soils
are comparable to swaths of Napa and
Sonoma. As part of their efforts, they
applied to have Malibu recognized as
its own grape-growing appellation—a
designation that was awarded in the
summer of 2014. At 46 miles long and

eight miles wide, the Malibu Coast American Viti-
cultural Area stretches through the Santa Monica
mountains, its boundaries touching on Hollywood,
Thousand Oaks and Beverly Hills. It includes such
noted wineries as Montage Vineyards, a respected
producer of chardonnay and pinot noir, and Col-
canyon Estate, a property that has made its mark
with award-winning merlot, cabernet sauvignon
and Bordeaux-varietal blends. To drive the wind-
ing roads through the coastal mountains here is to
stumble on delightful day-tripper destinations like
Malibu Wines, where a tasting room opens onto
sylvan picnic grounds.
With Malibu real estate prices at a premium,
vineyard acres aren’t easy to come by, so a num-
ber of local vintners acquire additional fruit from
beyond the appellation. The Dolins, for instance,
make a subtle pinot noir with grapes from Santa
Barbara, as well as a Central Valley-sourced rosé.
But their estate chardonnay, drawn from their origi-
nal Malibu plantings, remains a Dolin signature, a
complex wine that holds up as nicely as a summer
sipper as it does as a companion to food.
“If you told me all those years ago that this is
what I’d end up doing, I never would have believed
it,” Dolin says.
It just goes to show that you never know where a
dream may take you.
TASTING NOTES
2013 Dolin Estate
Chardonnay $39
Judicious use of oak lends dimension to this
well-structured white, which exudes hints of
pear and vanilla on the nose. Those flavors
give way to pineapple and citrus on the palate
and resolve into a clean, smooth finish. A great
warm-weather wine, perfect with seafood or
grilled vegetables.
2009 Colcanyon Estate
Cabernet Sauvignon $39
This lush, full-bodied red suggests ripe plums
and dark cherries on the nose but plays on the
palate in a medley of oak and summer berries.
With its fruit-forward profile, it pairs beautifully
with hearty roasts and braises.
2011 Montage Vineyards
Seven Sons Syrah $45
An intriguing dark red in color, the supple wine
gives off complex aromatics that mingle hints of
blueberry with clove and other wintry spices. Its
round structure feels almost silky on the palate,
which gives way to a long, smooth, berry-inflect-
ed finish.
Clockwise from top: Malibu grapes have produced several award-
winning wines. Everyone knows the beverage of choice in this
sea-meets-mountains city. This merlot from Colcanyon Estate won
a bronze medal at the San Francisco International Wine Festival.
Wine connoisseurs enjoy the Malibu Wine Festival. Jim Palmer

Jaguar Match
It’s fun to ponder your dream car, and the reverie is even more satisfying when you
conjure a pairing of driver and passenger, a dream couple whose ample style
stands up to the sexiness of their ride. Here are three Jaguars for the ages—dream cars
for sure—each with an age-appropriate, high-horsepower couple.
detours
Her himjag of choice
Jaguar XK120
Launched in 1948, the XK120 was Jaguar’s first post-war model. The “120” designation referred to its top speed of 120 mph,
which made it the world’s fastest production car. The first 1949 roadster off Jaguar’s assembly line, chassis number 670003,
was delivered to Clark Gable, but we think the 1949 model shown here is better suited to Cary Grant.
Jaguar e-type
When it debuted in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type was unusual for its monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack and pinion steer-
ing, independent front and rear suspension, and speed (an easy 150 mph). But above all, what made the E-Type a sensation
was its drop-dead gorgeousness. The car shown here, a 1961 XK-E Series 1, is among the most valuable examples.
Jaguar F-Type
The latest Jaguar two-seater, the F-Type, is the spiritual offspring of the iconic E-Type. Available as a roadster or a coupe,
the F-Type has adjustable suspension settings to allow the driver to control ride and handling, with 25 different programmed
driving modes. Leapfrog the base model and plunk for the 5.0-liter supercharged V8. It generates an ample 542 horsepower.
