OVERVIEW:
It’s my goal to start an all-out assault on the status quo, using the cultural phenom-
enon of life lists to change the world. The initiative driving The Defining Audacity
Radio Show is developed to inspire people running in the quick sand of life to stop
saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow” – whether that’s starting their own business,
climbing Mount Everest or simply re-reading their
favorite book.
The starting point: Being still and figuring out what
the heck you want to do...what you want to experi-
ence...where you want to go...etc.
Life lists – more commonly referred to as a bucket list
– are extremely powerful. They are a fun and unique way to keep our goals, dreams
and aspirations in the spotlight; an informal road map to living a bold, adventurous
and intentional life.
Even though making a bucket list has been called one of the most selfish things a
person can do, this initiative proves that it has the potential to be just the opposite –
a selfless act of giving back. Since life lists are commonplace in society, they create
a wonderfully great opportunity to bring people together and help each other.
The concept of #liveonpurpose is not just about inspiring others to make a list and
start marking things off – it’s a call to action to focus on other people’s goals and
desires. It’s about providing hope in the lives of people going through the motions
and not truly living life. It’s my vision to use this premise to help re-light a fire
within the lives of people living in a haze of complacency and excuses.
MY DEFINITION OF LIVING BOLDLY:
Confidently living the life that we want...Identifying what’s important to us and not
letting ANYTHING compromise that...never settling...always fighting.
That does not mean arrogant, frivolous, reckless or irresponsible.
LAYING THE FOUNDATION:
The four components to the foundation of living on purpose are:
• Contentment – being comfortable in your own skin
• Gratitude – being thankful for where you are in life
• Motives – examining why you do what you do
• Relational Joy – identifying the importance of investing in others
Why is it important to lay a solid foundation for this initiative? I want this initiative
to be sustainable. Anyone can make a list and mark a few things off, but it’s only
a matter of time before it’s buried under life again – work, bills, T-ball and soccer
games, mindless TV.
Live on Purpose
#markitoff
The Short Version:
I’m a writer, speaker and radio personality who wants to inspire others to live a
bold, adventurous and intentional life.
The Long Version:
When I walked away from my last “real” job, I put a pen to paper and realized
that I had the embarrassing distinction of having 11 jobs since graduating from
college...11 years ago. That’s right ...11 jobs in 11 years.
Awesome! (insert sarcasm)
At first, I looked at this “accomplishment” as a monumental failure. I felt like a
bona fide loser, and started asking self-defeating questions. The main one: “What
the hell is wrong with you?!?!?!?”
Then, the smoke cleared and my confidence started to return. I kept my heart open
for my next opportunity and/or adventure. Well, it found me.
After a lot of discussion and prayer, I have decided to finally embrace the gift
that God gave me and inspire others to look at life a little differently. I started a
grassroots blog, Defining Audacity, which is designed to push others to live a bold,
adventurous and intentional life. I simply write about my life – which includes
learning to be a dad, giving back and trying to attack life with reckless abandon.
That blog has turned into a sydincated radio show, which started in Sept. 2015.
I’m also a chronic list maker. I currently have a life list that consists of 55 things
that I want to accomplish over the next 555 days. I’m using this list as a road map
for my new platform, #liveonpurpose – an initiative designed around setting goals
and going after them.
This powerful platform also revolves around helping others. It’s about living
with a grateful heart and putting others before ourselves. I love sharing stories of
helping other people cross things off their bucket lists, and inspiring them to “pay
it forward” and help someone else.
Establishing Credibility:
There are four things that qualify me to develop this platform:
	 1. My ability to entertain and inspire with the written word,
	 2. My passion for putting other people’s goals, dreams
	 and aspirations in the spotlight,
	 3. My determination to live a bold and adventurous life, and
	 4. My desire to lead by example.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Jour-
nalism. I also have a master’s degree in Educational Administration. Probably my
most impactful on-the-job training came as a college football coach and recruiting
coordinator for a major Division I football program (Go Frogs!). I was responsible
for leading and influencing young men during their post-high school adventure.
I’m able to pay my bills – and stay married – by doing marketing consulting and
co-hosting a morning radio talk show.
