DESCRIPTION OF PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEER SERVICE
Kelley Ann Redmond XXX-XX-3834 Republic of Moldova
After a competitive application process in which skills, adaptability, and cross -cultural understanding were stressed,
Kelley Redmond was invited into Peace Corps service. She was assigned to teach English as a Foreign Language in
the Republic of Moldova.
Kelley entered training on June 10, 2010 and participated in an intensive 10-week training program in the Ialoveni
region (village of Razeni), Moldova. Language training included 142 hours of both spoken and written Romanian
language instruction and 18 hours of cross-cultural training. Technical training for TEFL included 126.5 hours of
technical sessions and Practice School teaching. Technical training prepared her for teaching in the Moldovan
classroom. Among other things,she learned how to write lesson plans,manage a classroom, grade students,work
with Moldovans,and teach reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. As part of the PST technical training,
Kelley also participated in 3.5 hours of Community Integration sessions. In addition, as part of the language and
cross-cultural component of the training program, Kelley lived with a Romanian-speaking Moldovan family in
Razeni for 10 weeks.
Kelley successfully completed training and was sworn in as a Volunteer on August 18, 2010. During the following
24 months of service, she participated in 30 hours of In-service technical training and 18.5 hours of Project Design
and Management training organized by PC.
Kelley served as a full-time English teacher assigned to the primary-secondary school Liceul Teoretic Alexei
Mateevici where she was one of 25 faculty members. She adhered to the curriculum requirements as mandated by
the Ministry of Education.
The schooloffered 8 grades of study and had an enrollment of approximately 250 students. Kelley reported directly
to the Director of the school, Tamara Cernalev. Instruction was set in formal classroomsettings exclusively for
Moldovan students.

In addition to her formal assignment, Kelley was active in numerous other realms of volunteer work. She designed a
resource manual for the teachers she collaborated with so they could continue to use it when she concluded her
service. This manual includes lesson plans, tests,activities, visual aids, etc. During her two years she worked with
14 students and community members in weekly individual English tutoring sessions. She worked with her students
to organize a variety of extra-curricular activities such as talent shows,holiday parties, and cross-cultural events.
During her two years of service, she recruited a total of three teams of students to participate in the Odyssey of the
Mind competition (a critical thinking/creativity competition founded in America). The second year, both her teams
were selected to participate in the Euro Fest competition in St. Petersburg,Russia. She organized the fundraising,
obtained the necessary travel documents for the students,helped the students prepare for the competition, and
chaperoned both teams on the international trip. Both years, she encouraged her students to participate in the
International Writing Olympics competition coordinated between the participation of other Peace Corps volunteers
in their respective communities and countries. Kelley was also involved in the creation of a grant which provided
sports equipment and educational seminars to her local community.
Kelley was also very active within the Peace Corps Moldova community as well. She worked with other volunteers
in order to assist themin different projects. She aided volunteers in the development of educational camps for
orphanages and summer camps for students. She also was involved in the Peer Support Network which lent support
to colleagues through a variety of activities and services.

satisfactory Peace Corps Volunteer service credited for purposed of retirement, seniority, reduction in force, leave or
other privileges based on length of government service. Peace Corps service shall not be credited toward
completion of a probationary or trial period or completion of any service requirement for career appointment.
