Directed by : Changfu Zhang
Produced by : Golden tiger pictures
Synopsis
This film is about the Reunion journey emerging from unexpected changes in current China mainland, in
which a couple of teacher and student experiencing twenty years of separation, they struggle to regain the
lost Innocence originated in the period 1980’s.
In the fall of 2008, just after Beijing Olympic, Wenjing, a female English teacher in a state university based in
China South-Eastern, She encounters a call overseas at the moment of staying at her home. Prior to this call
without border, Wenjing’s publishable essays featured continuity are Googled through web pages by the
primary student in her teaching career, who is living abroad and being cultivated in her blossoming time.
During the call they are both thinking of the past sharing salad days of junior school in a traditional country
town by Sino Grand canal, which make them close to each other even with their being away from for long
time.
The student is amazed that Wenjing’s voice sounds as well as which of her naive age while she is still
educating Chinese boys and girls English as an official lecturer conferred Master’s Degree. In spite of many
transforming things of their life and the nation, Wenjing’s first day of showing herself with fashionable
dresses of 1980‘s also impresses the student who travels lots of countries.
With the so called “ High speed Development “ in China mainland after Tiananmen Tragedy in 1989, they
move to be away from each other further and further due to distinct life of their own. When current
mainstream social values of ” Money / Sex / Power “ emerge from concerns of 1980’s, the future of this
country seems to be uncertain. While the sense of Simple but Rich belonging to the past Era is still what they
look forward to feel, even with the unexpected Reality of modern days.
The lotus pool park, one of famous attractions in Wenjing’s living city, locates in outskirts of the University
she works for,
she often rides her mini mobile cycle to school through the park. The photo of lotus pool shot by Wenjing is
sent to the overseas student and it initiates their aspiring Reunion they are both longing for.
“ I’M GOING TO... ... , WE WILL... ..., etc “, these patterns of sentences are what Wenjing frequently says in
English lessons when the student follows her to learn basic English daily in their home town. As an excellent
schoolboy, he almost wins highest scores of most tests she oversees. Although Wenjing is a native of the
ancient town, many boys consider her modern and some young male teachers feel a yearning for her.
As a fresh girl just graduated from education college, Wenjing teaches the student English for 18 months.
At the end of 1980’s, Wenjing offers the student a small bottle of glue,
when they are about to depart for other journeys of each.
Since then, No word of each other until the student calls her in 2008.
