This document outlines the pledge of individuals displaying a "safe zone" symbol to provide a supportive space for LGBT students and colleagues. The symbol signifies that the person will be understanding, supportive, and trustworthy for those needing advice or assistance, and will work to educate themselves and others on GLBT issues. Conversations will be kept confidential to protect privacy, and homophobic or heterosexist actions will not be tolerated.

supqortive, and trustworthy if a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender
studþnt or colleague needs advice, assistance, support or just someone
w¡il1whom to talk.
The person displaying this symbol is committed to their own and others'
education and development on GLBT issues. Homophobic and hetero-
sexist comment and actions will not be tolerated, but will be addressed in
an educational, informative, and respectful manner. To honor and protect
the privacy of community members, conversations and requests for
support and/or assistance will be kept confidential.
