The Atlantic Ocean is one of the world's five major oceanic divisions. It separates North and South America from Europe and Africa and stretches from the Arctic in the north to the Southern Ocean or Antarctica in the south. The Atlantic Ocean occupies an estimated one-fifth of Earth's surface and has an average depth of nearly 14,000 feet.
