- We are part of a student engagement team that consists of students, support staff and academics working at Birmingham City University. We are a pretty representative sample. Kerry Gough – former member of the School of Media teaching team. Student engagement activity changed my life and approach to learning and teaching, so much so that I shifted role to work centrally with the Centre for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching so that I could share my experiences with others and encourage and foster collaboration more broadly. Jamie Morris – former student of the English and Media pathway, worked on a number of collaborative projects and was part of the original Level Up Mentoring team. Went on to become the university’s first Student Success Adviser & is now employed with the Centre for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching as an Assistant Lecturer in Student Engagement. He also manages the Student Academic Partners projects. Charlotte Gough & Dani Campion – Media student and all round engaged students (both currently working on 12 live broadcast for the ScratchMedia team!) Both Level Up Mentors and all round good eggs
- Worked on a wide variety of projects over the years, none of which have had digital as the sole focus, but through working with our students all of our projects have gone on to have digital technologies embedded as a part of their practice. Many of our students live online an so we were keen to tap into that landscape in order to make the most of digital and meet them on their own terms in a shared common ground.
- Much of the work that we have done has built out of the Student Academic Partners work that has been promoted and developed by the Centre for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching. This year to date there have been 60 Student Academic Partners projects funded and a total of 45 Student Academic Mentoring Projects funded. We still have another round of funding open, so that figure is set to increase for this year.
