The process of dietary cholesterol in the body begins with ingestion of high cholesterol foods which are then absorbed by the small intestine and enter the bloodstream. The cholesterol is absorbed into the liver which combines it with triglycerides to form VLDL that is broken down into LDL which exits the liver and enters the bloodstream for delivery. HDL removes plaque from arteries and releases it from the liver while bile flushes remaining cholesterol from the body through feces.
