From July 2015 until January 2017 I represented the DevOps service space at AWS. I traveled the world and spoke about DevOps culture, practices and tools to companies small and large. Then I left for AWS Lambda team and now travel the world helping developers understand this new application paradigm that is serverless. People often ask me, what does serverless mean for DevOps? What does DevOps mean for serverless? In this talk I’ll give the AWS perspective and help clear up the future of both, talk about the culture, practice, and tools of serverless application development and explain what you should do if DevOps is in your title.
Building Microservices with Containers (CON308-R1) - AWS re:Invent 2018Amazon Web Services
Microservices are minimal function services that are deployed separately, but can interact together to function as a broader application. Microservices can be built, changed, and deployed quickly with a relatively small impact, empowering developers to speed up the rate of innovation. In this session, we show how containers help enable microservices-based application architectures, discuss best practices for building new microservices, and cover the AWS services that allow you to build performant microservices applications.
Enterprise DevOps: Patterns of Efficiency (ENT311-R1) - AWS re:Invent 2018Amazon Web Services
DevOps is a powerful movement that can help enterprises speed up their rate of innovation. But many large organizations struggle to implement DevOps at scale due to conflicts (real and perceived) with existing IT processes. Enterprise DevOps is the convergence of the speed and agility from modern development processes with the governance, security, and compliance control from traditional IT operations processes. In this session, learn how to implement enterprise DevOps in your organization through building a culture of inclusion, common sense, and continuous improvement. Also learn how to incorporate the knowledge from subject matter experts across your business into your automated DevOps guardrails to create the positive feedback loop we call "patterns of efficiency." This session contains actionable advice for leaders from IT as well as finance, compliance, and security departments.
DevOps is the combination of cultural philosophies, practices, and tools that increases an organization’s ability to deliver applications and services at high velocity: evolving and improving products at a faster pace than organizations using traditional software development and infrastructure management processes.
In this presentation we will:
- Deepen AWS DevOps services
- Understand how to release a serverless apllication
- Understand the benefits of technology with AWS Coud9
The Future of API Management Is ServerlessChris Munns
Gone are the days of needing to manage servers for running your API based applications, of needing to think about capacity management and the gamble of provisioning too much or too little infrastructure. By leveraging serverless API management services, you can easily build and deploy traditional REST and GraphQL based APIs without the need for provisioning or managing any servers or infrastructure. I’ll share how AWS customers are running secure APIs with high availability and automated scaling, all while significantly reducing their operational overhead, and how you can do the same.
Making Hybrid Work for You: Getting into the Cloud Fast (GPSTEC308) - AWS re:...Amazon Web Services
Everywhere there is talk of modernization, containers, Kubernetes, and 900K containerized applications on Docker Hub. Yet only 35% of container workloads are in production. In this session, we explore why so many modernization journeys fail to move from the proof of concept or evaluation phase into production, and how application platforms are helping customers succeed. We explore how application platforms are mitigating the complexities and pitfalls, and how they assist enterprise customers not only in modernizing workloads but building hybrid application workloads and accelerating cloud adoption.
In this session, we’ll discuss the benefits of moving from monolithic to micro-services application architectures, and examine where micro-services can be used. We’ll share common transition strategies and relate them to the specifics of e-commerce and retail workloads, using customer examples. You’ll learn how to build micro-services using AWS services, and get a better understanding of the role of data storage, API endpoints and service discovery.
Microsoft Active Directory su AWS per supportare i tuoi Windows WorkloadsAmazon Web Services

Today we are all here to discuss DevOps
I will start with "What is DevOps and why?”
Followed by a bit of history about Amazon's own DevOps transformation, and the changes that we made to become more agile with our product delivery
And finally introduce the AWS Code Services services that’ can assist customer with their DevOps transformation.
You should walk away with a high level understanding of the different parts involved with a DevOps transformation, and an idea of how you could use our AWS Code services in your own DevOps processes
Software creation and distribution is much easier and faster than ever:
Startups can now take on giants with little to no funding ahead of time
Getting your software into the hands of millions is just a download away
Your ability to move fast is paramount to your ability to fight off disruption
Amazon created a shared internal deployment service called Apollo. Apollo’s job was to reliably deploy a specified set of software across a target fleet of hosts. Developers could define their software setup process for a single host, and Apollo would coordinate that update across an entire fleet of hosts.

- after we tell customers the story of our DevOps transformation, they typically ask us how they can do the same
- I'm not going to over-simplify this, because it is a very complex answer
- this can involve organizational changes, cultural changes, and process changes
- plus there's no one right answer for these
- every company is going to tweak their approach to optimize for their own environment
- but there is one standard thing that every DevOps transformation needs, and that's an efficient and reliable continuous delivery pipeline
- that's the focus for the rest of this talk
CodeCommit gave us a single version-controlled source of truth
CodeBuild used HashiCorp Packer to build and image an EC2 instance, enabling faster deployments
CodePipeline hooked them all together to give us a visualation
