Derek Jeter was born in 1974 in New Jersey to an African American father and Caucasian mother. As a child, Jeter signed contracts setting his behavior and was encouraged by his mother to have a positive attitude. He made his MLB debut in 1995 after injuries to other players and batted .339 while leading the Yankees in RBIs and home runs as one of the best shortstops. Jeter went on to achieve 3000 career hits and win a Gold Glove award, while also making multiple All-Star teams and winning a Silver Slugger award.

2. Early Life
Jeter was born in Pequannock, New Jersey on June 26, 1974.
His father, Sanderson Charles Jeter, Ph.D., a substance
abuse counselor, is African American; his mother, Dorothy,
an accountant, is Caucasian and of Irish/German descent.
They met while serving in the United States Army in
Germany. As a child, Jeter's parents made him sign a
contract every year that set acceptable and unacceptable
forms of behavior. Dorothy instilled a positive attitude in
her son, insisting that he not use the word "can't". Jeter's
sister Sharlee, who is five years younger, was a softball star
in high school, while his father played baseball at Fisk
University in Tennessee at the shortstop position.

3. Adult Life
Fern’andez and Pat Kelly had injuries in 1995.Jeter
made his major league debut on May 29,1995. Later
that day, he got his first 2 hits and first 2 career runs.
Jeter batted .339 leading the team in RBIs and
homeruns. He got to be one of the games best short-
stop.
