Derek Jeter was born in 1974 in New Jersey to an African American father and Caucasian mother. As a child, Jeter signed contracts setting his behavior and was encouraged by his mother to have a positive attitude. He made his MLB debut in 1995 after injuries to other players and batted .339 while leading the Yankees in RBIs and home runs as one of the best shortstops. Jeter went on to achieve 3000 career hits and win a Gold Glove award, while also making multiple All-Star teams and winning a Silver Slugger award.
