Unit 27 Learning Aim C: Apply musical theatre skills and techniques to a performance.

Demonstrate use of rehearsal to apply singing, dancing and acting skills and techniques to a musical theatre performance. Apply singing, dancing and acting
techniques to a musical theatre performance.

Demonstrate effective selection, development and application of singing, dancing and acting skills and techniques in rehearsal and performance of a musical
theatre performance piece.
C - Distinction
Demonstrate confident, disciplined and organised development and application of techniques to fluently and successfully combine singing, acting and dance
skills to a musical theatre performance for a target audience.
Grade First solo - chicago all that jazz
Teacher Review Excellent timing for the first run through. Some clear moments of characterisation in the tone of your voice with that raw rough
jazz sound. Starting to embody the sound of the nightclub vaudevillian singer of the roaring 20s. To move forward I need to work
on character development to show the role of characterisation I am trying to show whilst performing. I also need to work on my
confidence as it will allow my character to show through more. To do this I would need to work on my projection in order to deliver
my lines clearly to the audience.
Self-assessment I found this a challenge performing a solo song on my own but when I watched my performance back I was impressed with my
timing and how well I had learnt the lines. I think for me to be able to move forward to improve, I need to do vocal warm ups
before singing. Also, to improve I need to show more of a character to embody the role. I also need to gain the confidence to sing
and project my voice rather than singing it in my head voice. I need to project my voice so that if an audience was listening they
would hear. I'd also need to improve my tone and pitch in order for me to reach notes fully.
SMART Target My smart target to improve my solo performance would be to work on fully embodying the character to portray a 1920s nightclub singer. I
want to achieve this by the June showcase to fully show my character to the audience. In order to achieve this goal I would need to work on
vocal warm ups to suit the character and the vocal range. I plan on doing vocal warmups before every rehearsal to develop my vocal skills for
singing and characterisaiton. This will help me to improve my pitch and tone and performing in other pieces I am working on including
Seasons of Love from Rent which is solely singing. I will take on the feedback of singing from the chest and not my head to project a clearer
sound. However, I also need to study my character in more detail so that I can perform to the best of my ability.
