What are the effects (consequences) of
deforestation?
Is deforestation an issue kids
should worry about?
Discuss this question with
your table groups!
Lets look at the facts!
Deforestation:
Pass out a copy of the “Deforestation Fact Cards” to
each table group.
Ask students to think about which facts support
which answer to the question: “Is deforestation an
issue kids should worry about?”
Sort the facts cards into the categories they think
are best-fitting.
Explain why you thought certain facts supported a
certain opinion. Share out observations of how the
facts were sorted. Here are some key points to bring
out:
Not every fact is viewed in the same way.
Certain facts might strongly support one opinion, while
other facts might be difficult to figure out how it could
support either opinion.
Some facts may be able to support both opinions,
depending on the explanation (or “rationale”) that goes
with it.
Is deforestation an issue kids should worry
about?
Use facts to support your thoughts. You must
include at least 5 facts that you found from your
research. Use reliable sources!
