Defentect is a technology company focused on detecting chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats. Their initial solution is a system called DM3 that manages, monitors and messages various threat sensors. They currently offer gamma radiation detectors but plan to partner with other companies to expand their sensor offerings. Radiological "dirty bombs" pose a significant threat, and Defentect's low-cost technology can help detect the movement of radiological materials to prevent their misuse. They aim to sell their systems to hospitals, waste facilities, first responders and other sectors through installation partners. Significant commercial applications are widely available –– medical, academic, agricultural and industrial settings: 6,000 hospitals in the US store thousands of curies of Cesium-137, a component of nuclear medicine. Cesium-137 is widely used in cancer therapy machines , hospital blood sterilizers and elsewhere as a water-soluble powder. Cobalt 60, which can also be used in dirty bombs, is widely used in food irradiation .
