 BIOGRAPHY
It is extremely difficult to put a lifetime of living, dreams, and relationships on a page or two, yet here is our attempt:
David Carl Lewis and his three younger brothers were born in Seattle, Washington USA 1939-44. Their father died in 1944
before David’s youngest brother James was born. Shortly thereafter David gave his heart to Jesus while listing to the Radio Kids
Bible Class. This decision started a love affair with the Bible, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and YHWH the Creator of the Universe.
Due to their mother’s illness, in 1948, David and his brothers traveled extensively, (by rail, airplane, car and bus to live with
various family members and friends in Michigan, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Georgia) until 1954 when they returned with
their mother Mary Christian to Seattle. As a result David attended 14 different schools before graduating from high school.
For 50 years or more, David and his brothers have been craftsman, builders, leaders and project managers just as their father had
been. In their youth they learned the ways of farming and marketing while living with their mother’s brothers and sister. This too
was akin to skills their fathers possessed; for example, their father Carl was a butcher, Grandfather Leon, owned a meat market,
during WW-1, in the farming town of Walla Walla, Washington. Today, David’s brother Dr. Roland Lewis is a Retired Pastor in
Canada, Captain Luke is a Retired Seattle to Alaska tug boat Captain, and James is an Industrial Arts Teacher in Florida.
Right out of high school David went to work at Boeing Aircraft Company as an aircraft Electrician and then he trained as a
Production Illustrator. As an Illustrator, in 1960, he worked on 3-Dimentional Structure, Wiring and Tubing Drawings of the
new 727 engines and completed all the 3-D Structural and Wiring Drawings for the upper tail section of the new 727 airplane.
David and his brothers’ careers were interrupted by the Vietnam War when he spent 4 years in the Air Force as a meteorologist.
In 1966, after the Air Force, Boeing hired David back to work on the 747 program. The Production Illustration Group was
expanding and needed to train 50 people to be Production Illustrators. David’s Supervisor asked if he would be interested in
writing a Lesson Plan. This he did and it was accepted and approved by the Boeing Training Division. They then asked him if
he would be the Production Illustration Instructor; and thereby, David became a teacher, teaching Blue Print Reading and
Production Illustration for Boeing and the local community college.
After the 747 Airplane ‘took off’ in 1969 David decided to venture out on his own by entering into the landscaping construction
business. During the winter off-season of 1970-71 an opportunity was provided for him to help construct a 90-bed lodge at Lake
Retreat Bible Camp. This was his first experience in Commercial Building Construction. David loved this work and eagerly
learned to work with logs, and lumber, roofing, doors, windows, and volunteers. In the summer of 1971 David returned to
landscaping and managed the landscape construction of an industrial park in South Seattle and two more landscape projects in
Oregon, one was a resort hotel on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation and the other was 10 miles of freeway on the southern
end of I- 205 skirting Portland. In the spring of 1972 a friend asked David to Partner with him in a Commercial Landscape
Maintenance Business. They managed numerous projects over a one hundred mile range north and south of Seattle. During this
time he studied for and received a Pesticide License, and a Master Gardener License. As the oil-crises took its toll on everyone,
David scrambled to survive. Even so, some of his most satisfying projects were completed during 1973-79 era. During this time
he worked in Tacoma on Central Baptist Church’s new education and 750 seat sanctuary buildings as a volunteer, Building
Committee Member, and then for the building contractor, as Carpenter. When this project was finished he designed and
executed a very large residential landscape on American Lake, and another large residential landscape project on Lake Stilicum,
South of Tacoma. One of these clients wanted to become a partner in a nursery business buyout. This did not come to fruition
but this Business Buying investment opportunity experience was a valuable educational process for David.
In 1979 David turned 40. His brother Luke asks if David would clime Mt. Rainer with him. David decided he needed a
sabbatical, so they signed up for a Mountain Glacier Climbing Class and climbed in the Olympics, Mount Saint Helens and
Mount Rainer that summer. They were among the last climbing groups to climb Mt. St. Helens’ 10,000 foot high summit,
because, soon thereafter it began to rumble, and climbing, as most everyone knows, was forbidden for a very good reason.
In January 1980, David and his family moved to Grapeview, WA, 40 miles west (as the road jogs) of Tacoma. They worked 4.5
years developing a Small Group Retreat Center for a wealthy Tacoma family. This job included design, construction, repair,
maintenance, entertainment, as well as management, programming and oversight of various projects. Their final and largest
building project on this site was a 5,700 square foot Bed and Breakfast Home for the owners, completed in 1984.
At the outset of the above retreat land development project David and his wife Betty formulated and founded the TENDER
BRANCH FOUNDATION (TBF), a National Heritage Foundation, on January 16, 1980. The purpose of the foundation was to
facilitate the design, construction and management oversight of Retreat and Sanctuary Facilities that promote and deliver the
GOOD NEWS of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth, and eternity with our loving creator and savior. During his study time David
was called by the Holy Spirit to develop “A Kingdom District (AKD),” a.k.a. “A PRESENT FOR YHWH.” More information
on this project may be found on the internet at: DavidsBRANCH.com and DavidsBRANCH.org.

REFERENCES

In 1984 a Business Man, friend, and Chairman of Central Baptist Church, Julian Runbeck, deceased, wrote, “If David says he
can do a particular job, then we can be assured that it will be done satisfactorily.” (This was written after David served on
the Central Baptist Church board of directors for 6 years with Chairman Runbeck, Owner of Washington Monument
Company, Tacoma, Washington, and after serving with the Building Committee in construction of a new church facility.)
“In all that David was instructed to do he proved himself to be a very conscientious and well able craftsman. His quiet
personality at times hides a friendly interest in people and a sincere character.” Reference 1979, Gunnar A. Kloven,
Partner, KOKN Construction, builders of Central Baptist Church, Tacoma, WA. (Letter outlining David’s achievements.)
Jack Powell, of Raleigh Mann & Powell, deceased wrote in 1984, “He (David) is a very creative man who will accept an
assignment and thoughtfully work with it until it is competed.” (This was written after working on the Building Committee
with Mrs. Powell and building a Retreat Center and a 5,700 square foot home for the Powell family in Grapeview, WA)
“Mr. Lewis was a pleasure to work with. His reliability and thoroughness gave me a feeling of confidence all during the
project. I would highly recommend David Lewis for any kind of project he might consider.” 1978 quote, Paul H. Stolz,
Partner, Ernst & Ernst, deceased, (Written after David designed, planned and constructed, on a two acre site, an extensive
grading, stonework, paths, lighting, dock and ramp, irrigation, lighting, and planting at Mr. Stolz’ American Lake Estate.)

CONCLUSIONS

“My Dear Friend: This designation doth give you a title to all the endeavors whereby I can serve your interests; and your
pious inclinations do so happily conspire with my duty, that I shall not need to step out of my road to gratify you; but I
may at once perform an office of friendship, and discharge the exercise of my function, since the advancing of virtue and
holiness, which I hope you make your greatest study, is the peculiar business of my employment.” Henry Scougal The Life
of God in the Soul of Man.
This 17th century pastor, Henry Scougal, so elegantly affirms, in his treatise’s opening statement, this conclusion; to which
we can only aspire in our dreams, that is, among other things, ‘the office of friendship’; and in the discharge and exercise
of our occupation as A BRANCH CORPORATION SOLE (ABCS), we can only hope, by grace and peace that passes
understanding, to endeavor to serve your interests, and perform the functional activities of this office, in a manor and
means that are manifest superior to anything hitherto accomplished by this unworthy, yet redeemed servant, and shameless
witness, – a benefactor of the Good News – to The Kingdom of Heaven is on Earth; and therein we do henceforth lightly
burdened you to draw together A PRESENT and hereby fulfill the word of YHWH, which is the Messiah’s Anointing in
you, the H O P E of glory; and finding HIM in US ALL as ONE (AKD) HABITAT, we freely H O P E for US, and
witness via our PRESENTS, the love and glory of HIM that gave US ALL LIFE; and that, through time eternal, more
     abundantly.
And the LORD (YHWH) shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one (AKD) LORD (YHWH), and his
     name one (AKD). (Zechariah 14:9)
