performance reasons. Because they are so small,
Widgets need another application to run. It's the
Yahoo! Widget application, and you can download
the application and a starter set of Widgets to your
PC or Mac from widgets.yahoo.com.
• A Widget can do almost anything from displaying a
weather forecast to playing a game. Widgets
generally sit on your desktop and don't look like
applications as we're used to seeing them in a
standard window. Instead, Widgets tend to look like
small pictures or animations.

7. Widget of Wordpress
• Widget is a fancy word for tools or
content that you can add, arrange,
and remove from the sidebar(s) of
your blog.
• Widgets make it easy to customize
the content of your sidebar(s). You
can learn more about the widgets we
offer by checking out the Related
links on the right.
10. You can access your widgets from the
Appearance -> Widgets screen in your Dashboard.
11. Adding Widgets
• To add a widget, drag the widget from the Available
Widgets or Inactive Widgets area on the left into the
Sidebar area on the right. When you see a dashed
line appear, you can drop the widget into place.
12. Configuring Widgets
• Each widget has configuration
options. To make changes to a widget
in the sidebar, click on the triangle on
the right side.

• This will open up the options for the widget.
Each widget will be different. Here is an
example of the Archives widget.
• After you have have configured the widget, click
the Save button. Clicking the Close link will
minimize the configuration options again.

• If you would like to remove a widget
from the sidebar, click the Delete link
in the configuration options as show
above.

• Here’s what the Calendar Widget looks like
when activated on a blog sidebar:
• Settings:Once you add the widget to your
sidebar from Appearance -> Widgets, you’ll
see that the widget settings look like this:

• The Blog Stats Widget displays the total number of
views to your blog (not including your own views).
It’s a nice way of showing off how popular your blog is.
• Here’s an example what it looks like when it’s activated
on a blog sidebar:

Appearance -> Widgets, you’ll see that the widget
settings look like this:
• Title: Set the title to use above the blog stats count. (i.e.
Stats, Traffic Love)
• 123,45: Set the word(s) to use along with the number.
“hits” and “views” are popular choices, but feel free to
get creative and make up your own.

Categories Widget
• The Categories Widget organizes your posts by category
in your blog’s sidebar. This can be handy for readers
who want to find more of your posts about certain
topics.
• Here’s what it looks like when it’s activated on a
blog sidebar:
19. Once you add the widget to your sidebar from
Appearance -> Widgets, you’ll see that the widget settings
look like this:
• Title – Sets the title that will display above the
categories in the sidebar. (i.e. Categories)
20. Show as dropdown – Check this box to display the
categories in a drop down menu rather than as a li
st. This is handy if you want to save space or hav
e a lot of categories.
21. Show post counts – If this box is checked, the the total
number of published posts for that particular category wil
l be displayed next to the link. You can show post counts
with both the list and dropdown menu formats.
22. Show hierarchy – If you have parent and child categories
(subcategories within main categories) you can choose to d
isplay the hierarchy (pictured below) or just leave the li
st “flat,” without indicating which subcategories fit insi
de your main categories (pictured above). You can show cat
egory hierarchies with both the list and dropdown menu for
mats.

categories in a certain order,
you can build a Custom Menu
then adding a
Custom Menu Widget instead.
