4. In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help
and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides
none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall
astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but
Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ is His slave-servant and the seal of
His Messengers.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of
error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.

6. What is Da’wah?
• Linguistically we can say Dawaah is simply to call
or to invite.
• Dawaah to Muslims is just but reminding. Allah
says, “and remind; indeed in reminding, it will
benefit the believers”
• Dawaah to the not yet Muslims is conveying the
message of tawheed and trying to clear the
misconception they had about Islam.
• Therefore can be termed as inviting to the way of
Allah. (Q; 16.125)

7. THE IMPORTANCE OF
DA’WAH

8. Importance/Obligation of Da’wah
• “And let there be (arising) from you a nation
inviting all that is good (Islam), enjoining what
is right and forbidding what is wrong, and
those will be the successful.” (Qur’an 3:104)
• “Invite to the way of your Lord (i.e. Islam)
with wisdom and good speech, and debate
with them in a way that is better. Truly, your
Lord knows best who has gone astray from His
path, and He is the best aware of those who
are guided.” (Q 16:125)

9. Allah [swt] says in the Qur’an,
You (Muslims) are the best of peoples ever raised up for
mankind; you enjoin Al-Maroof (i.e. Islamic Monotheism
and all that Islam has ordained) and forbid Al-Munkar
(polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden),
and you believe in Allah. And had the people of the
Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have
been better for them; among them are some who have faith,
but most of them are Al-Fasiqoon (disobedient to Allah)
Ale Imraan v .110
Calling people towards Allah also means completing our own
worship, the reason for which we are created. It is one of
the noblest acts that entails a high reward.

10. Do we really believe that Da’wah is our obligation?
Reflect over this Surah which we recite everyday? [Al Asr]
By the time,
Verily, man is in loss,
Except those who believe [in Islamic monotheism]
and do righteous deeds,
and recommend one another to the truth [to perform all kind
of good deeds; Al Maroof which Allah has ordained, and
abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds Al Munkar,
which Allah has forbidden]
and recommend one another towards patience [for the
sufferings, harms and injuries which one may encounter in
Allah's cause during preaching this way of life of Islamic
monotheism or jihad].

11. Did you reflect?
Did you notice Why the word “And” has been repeated so many times
in the Surah?
If fulfilling just one of the criteria was enough for us, the repeated
word would have been “Or”.
This implies that fulfilling each criteria is a must to hope for Jannah.
[or we will be one of the losers]
So, apart from believing, and doing righteous deeds, we should also
call one another to the truth, and towards patience, i.e., do Dawah.
Do we hope for Jannah, without fulfilling our obligations?

12. There are also many related Ahadeeth:
‘Convey what you have received from me, even if it is one
verse’. [Bukharee]. Conveying a message therefore does not require a
high level of scholarship, it is in fact a responsibility of each and every
Muslim, according to his or her ability.
‘Whoever hides knowledge, Allah will brand him with the
branding iron from the hellfire’. [Ahmed]
‘If one of u sees a wrong, let him change it with his hand, and
if he is unable then with his tongue, and if he is unable then
with his heart. And that is the weakest of faith’

• "He who calls others to follow the Right Guidance
will have a reward equal to the reward of those who
follow him, without their reward being diminished
in any respect on that account.” [Sahih Muslim]
• Allah (SWT) tells us in The Qur’an:
“And who is better in speech than he who invites to
Allah and does righteous deeds, and says I am one
of the Muslims.”
• Security both in Dunya and Aakhirah

15. What If I Don’t do Da’wah?
-“ Verily, those who conceal the clear proofs,
evidences and the guidance, which we have sent
down, after We have made it clear for the people of
the book, they are the ones cursed by Allah, and
cursed by the cursers.” (Quran 2:159)
- Your own friends and companions/collegues will
blame you for not guiding them in this world.

16. What If I Don’t do Da’wah?
• On the Day of Resurrection, people will be asked about other
matters, including the following:
• It was narrated from Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with
him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) said: “The son of Adam will not be dismissed from
before his Lord on the Day of Resurrection until he has been
questioned about five things: his life and how he spent it, his
youth and how he used it, his wealth and how he earned it
and how he disposed of it, and how he acted upon what he
acquired of knowledge.” (TIRMIDHI 2422)

We are
practicing

responsibility
“Allah commanded Jibrael A.S to destroy
a city because of the evildoers therein.
Jibrael said, “O Allah, there is a person
in the city who has never disobeyed you.
Allah said, destroy him as well, because he
was not offended by their evildoing”
If there were people committing sins and people
who had the power to stop them, but did not do
so, then Allah would punish both parties!

18. Some Muslims say: [contd.]
First, we should
improve our own
selves and
community, and then
tell others.
Prophet Muhammad [saw]
couldn't convince his
only uncle, Abu Talib.
But it did not stop him
from doing Da'wah to
others !
It is much easier to tell Muslims, as they don’t retaliate much
[e.g., when we tell them about hijab, salah, beard etc]. But we
are afraid that if we tell Non-Muslims, they will retaliate, ask
questions, argue ! We don’t want to do our homework, make
effort etc, and make excuses to escape the obligation and still
hope for Jannah?

19. Some muslims say: [contd.]
“Lakum
deenukum, wali
ya deen”. ‘To u is
your way, to me
is mine ‘ [Surah
Al Kafirun]
This is quoted out of context to
again escape from our obligation.
This Surah is referring to those who
reject faith. The question of
rejecting faith arises only when we
have delivered the message in the
first place
So, whom are we deceiving?

20. Some muslims say: [contd.]
“La ikraha
fi deen”.
“There is no
compulsion
In Religion”.
[Al Baqarah -
256]
Of course No Compulsion. But only after
first delivering the message. On the day
of judgment, the Mushrik will say –
these were our neighbors, our colleagues,
our friends who were Muslims - they did
not inform us, so how are we to blame?
So, we too will have to follow them to
hell.

propagation we practice patience. {suratul asr}

single human being with over 90% of the
worlds’ population being practicing Muslims

1) To earn Allah’s pleasure
2) Pass the message of Tawheed/Oneness
3) Inform about Islam
4) Bring back the non-practicing Muslims to the fold
5) Getting a Shahada/verbal testimony

How do you want to achieve them?
• It is divided into three stages;
a) before the approach
b) during the approach
c) after the approach

27. The means of any mission must serve its objectives.
There are Muslims who stoop to unimaginable levels to promote their
projects and ideas. It is the norm to see the funding of schools, books,
etc, coming from interest money.
Some allow mixed gathering to encourage participation.
The result will be identical. Anything that does not operate within the
framework of Islam will inevitable fail.
So we should be wary of the means we use.

28. Before the Approach
There are things to be put into consideration before
you approach the person you are doing da’wa to.
Be it on the street, bus, neighbour etc.;
1) Build your knowledge- you don’t have necessarily
to be a scholar, but there are important knowledge
you should at least have for effective da’wa;
a) What you’re calling to
b) Who you’re calling
c) How to do the calling - e.g. the palm tree guy

29. 2) Be a true Muslim character-always remember your
actions speak louder than your words; Islam in Kenya
3) Remember your ikhlas is your greatest strength- the
story of the tree worshipers
4) know your strengths and weaknesses
5) presentation matters. (cleanlinnes)
6) proper knowledge of the verses of the Qur’an and the
prophets’ traditions
7) have a structure. Having a well thought structure in
your speech/communication is very important.
8) make dua/supplicate to Allah to lighten your tongue
and guide people using you
9) Don’t favour a group over others

30. Knowledge:
to call the people to the way of Allah with Knowledge, and
not with ignorance. Lets beware of giving Da’wah while
being in a state of ignorance. Some pious people have said,
“Give knowledge [of Deen] everything you have, it will give
you some of what it has”. Lets ask ourselves, how much will
it give us, if we only give it our spare / leisure time?

31. Good Relationship with Allah
Obey him and keep away from what
he has forbidden
Sincerity:
It is waajib upon the Daa’ie to have
Ikhlaas for the sake of Allah [swt].
He / She should not be desiring to
show the people, or to have a good
image, nor should he desire the praises
and rewards of the people

32. Akhlaaq:: Be gentle and patient, and moderate in
Da’wah, while dealing with people. Beware of
harshness , as it will make them distant, not
close, and causes separation, not unity. Our
words need to have an affect on their hearts.
The best believers are those with the best character.
“And by the mercy of Allaah you dealt with them
gently. If you were harsh and hard hearted,
they would have fled from around you...”
(Q Ch3 V159)

35. Perseverance:
Dawah will test us in many situations [afflictions,
temptations, and obstacles] that try to lure us off from our
mission. A Daa’ie should have a praiseworthy personality
and an excellent behaviour, calling to patience. A Daa’ie
should be sincere in Da’wah, and strive in spreading truth
amongst the people, and keep them away from falsehood.
And with that, we should supplicate for guidance for them.
[May Allah guide u, grant u the ability to accept the truth.
May he help u with acceptance of the truth. [hidaak allah
wa faqak allah li qubool al haqq aanak allah alaa qubool al
haqq].The Daa’ie should not despair, or have hopelessness,
or say anything except that which is good. He should not
say a statement which might cause aversion to the truth.

36. We need to use wisdom and tact,
especially when informing someone
not to continue in a prohibited act.
This is not easy today, as people have
come to regard some prohibited acts as
simply ordinary, and cannot
understand the objection to it. Hikma
is required to make people see the error
of their ways.

39. People learn in different ways.
Researchers confirm that some people learn
from what they see, some learn from what
they hear, while some prefer to read.
People’s acceptance of a concept also
depends on their scope of intellect, cultural
background, or their field of operation. All
these diverse factors call for various
methods of Da’wah dissemination - that
appeals and stimulates peoples interests,
senses and needs.
Realize that

people, and make conversation with
them around their interests.
We should provide literature according
to their interests. E.g.
A doctor could be given Maurice
Bucaille’s “The Bible, The Qur’an, and

A lawyer could be given books on
Islamic Law, etc.

• concur your FEAR – the two definitions of FEAR.
• ice breaker (a smile, approach, extending greeting)
• introduction and pass out the literature
• Be careful of timing
• avoid asking for time limits
• make the person comfortable
• implement your predetermined structure
• lead the conversation by asking yes/no questions
• if you notice disinterest, do not force

45. The beautiful style of speech:
the Daa'ie is responsible for acquiring a respectable level of
language proficiency, to effectively convey the message.
It is worthy to note that all evil channels of
communication convey its mischief, deceit, delusion, and
falsehood through adorned speech. The Daa’ie is more
entitled to use this, to call for the truth.
 Brevity and eloquence in conveying the Message.
 Use parables and similitude to make it more interesting.
 Clarity and repetition when necessary.
 Gestures & visual aids definitely make an impact.

46. Strong will and confidence:
It’s desirable to exhibit a strong will, positive self-
confidence, and the capacity to control emotions.
Posing questions:
This will often stimulate thought and sharing of ideas.
Rewarding the right answers will encourage eager
participation.

49. Remember the priority
Da'wah should start with fundamental issues, before proceeding
with those that are less central. The oneness of Allah [Tawheed]
is the beginning and the end. Each deed should be connected
with it. So Prioritize. Ibn ‘Abbaas RA reported that when the
Prophet (SAW) sent Mu‘aadh ibn Jabal to Yemen he told
him: “You will be going to Christians and Jews, so the first
thing you should invite them to is the assertion of the
oneness of Allaah, Most High. If they realize that, then
inform them that Allaah has made five daily prayers
obligatory on them. If they pray them, then inform them
that Allaah has made the payment of charity from their
wealth obligatory on their rich to be given to their poor. If
they accept that, then take it from them and avoid the best
part of people’s property.” (BUKHARI)

IMAAN/FAITH & FIRM BELIEF/CONVICTION IN
“LA ILAHA ILLALLAHU MUHAMMADUR
RASULULLAH”
Develop the understanding that Allah is the creator
of everything. Bring the faith & firm belief that Allah
can do everything without the help of the creation
but the creation doesn’t possess any quality of doing
anything without the help of Allah.
The only success in this life and the life hereafter, lies
on obeying the orders of Allah & the way shown to
us by Rasulullah (‫)ﷺ‬

51. Da’wah to Muslims
Revolve around any of the common qualities of sahaba RA
CONCENTRATION AND DEVOTION IN SALAH
Perform Salah with full concentration & devotion like
Rasulullah (‫)ﷺ‬ & Sahabah (RA) used to perform.
Develop the quality of living our life outside of Salah
the way we are in Salah (ie: When in Salah we are in
complete obedience to Allah, similarly to live our life
in the same fashion)
Use Salah to reap from the treasures of Allah.

52. Da’wah to Muslims
Revolve around any of the common qualities of sahaba RA
ILM AND DHIKR
Develop the quality of knowing what Allah wants
from us at each and every moment. Learn the basics
of deen because it is Fardh upon all male and female
Muslims. Differentiate what is halal & what is haram.
Develop quality of Ihsaan (24/7 awareness of Allah)
BROTHERHOOD AND KINSHIP
Develop the quality of knowing the value of a Muslim
and have honor for him/her. We also have to create a
desire to suppress our needs and fulfill others needs.

53. Da’wah to Muslims
Revolve around any of the common qualities of sahaba RA
IKHLAAS
Develop the quality of doing all our actions for the
sake of Allah‫ﻭﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬ ‫ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ‬ .
DA’WAH AND SACRIFICE
We are the ummah of Rasulullah (‫.)ﷺ‬ Rasulullah (‫)ﷺ‬
is the last prophet and no more prophets to come.
So it is our responsibility to remind one another and
do the efforts of deen. Allah ‫ﻭﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬ ‫ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ‬ has blessed
us with health, wealth & time; we have to utilize
these in the Path of Allah‫ﻭﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬ ‫ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ‬ .

• avoid crowds if you cannot handle them

- be a good listener so as to avoid argument

• I’m too busy to pray 5 times a day

• why don’t you people shake hands with the opposite gender
• is it a must to have/keep a beard
• Muslims are too dirty
• Muslims don’t love one another, when you die, they burry
you too fast
• we’re worshipping one God anyway, so no worries.
When answering questions, always start
with a logical example before giving a
supporting reference to a scripture

56. Deliver the Message, and leave the rest to Allah.
We must remain firm in our expectation, and hope for
the good. We should not despair in the effect of our
call, nor about the guidance of people we call to. We
should not despair about the aid and the help of Allah,
even if a long time passes.

57. After the approach
• Differentiate between success and failure
• Understand that you have achieved
something
• Know that guidance comes from Allah
• Make dua Allah to accept it from us and make
him a Muslim
• Show kindness no matter how annoyed you
might get.

58. ALWAYS REMEMBER!
Guidance is from Allah.
Our job is only to convey the message in a clear
way. We should not worry if people do not agree
or listen to us. Shaytaan will use this fact to
establish resignation and hopelessness in our
hearts, and make it appear that we could channel
our efforts elsewhere.
Beware !

59. We should win the hearts of the
people with the light of Islam, by
simple measures such as Inviting
them to our home, giving them
tokens or gifts, parting with them
politely and with a smile etc.

60. Istiqamah & Continuous Improvement
We should be constant in Da’wah. Results often
take place only after some time, and so we should
be aware of the stamina, efforts, and the
patience that is required.
We should try to be a dynamic individual who
commits to building up our skills and developing
our talents continuously.

61. We should emulate our beloved
Nabii ‫ﷺ‬like the way the sahaba
RA emulated Nabii ‫ﷺ‬as their role
model!

62. NAQSH-E-QADAM NABII ‫ﷺ‬ KE HAIN JANNAT KE RASTE,
ALLAH ‫ﻭﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬ ‫ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ‬
SE MILATE HAIN SUNNAT KE RASTE
On the footsteps of NABII ‫ﷺ‬ is the path to Jannah; to
meet with ALLAH ‫ﻭﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬ ‫ﺳﺒﺤﺎﻧﻪ‬ (you have to use) the
path of SUNNAH

63. Ask yourself
How do our efforts compare with those of the prophet [saw]
and his companions?
How many good deeds have we prepared for the day of
judgment?
What did we , as individuals and communities, do for Islam?
Were we distracted by our money and our children from the
obedience of Allah and jihad for his sake?
“O you who believe! Let not your money or your children
divert you from the remembrance of Allah. If any act as
such, then surely they are the losers.”[Al-Munafiqun – 9]

64. CONCLUSION
Our prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ conveyed the message,
fulfilled the trust, counseled the Ummah, and then
passed away. Our duty is to safeguard that trust
handed down to us through generations of the
Muslim Ummah.
