David Russell Smith is a biomedical engineering specialist graduating from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in May 2016 with a GPA of 3.34. He has experience in metalworking, polymers, composites, programming, modeling, electrical work, and medical device development. He has worked as an undergraduate assistant at UAB developing casting and machining projects. Additionally, he has volunteered extensively in tutoring, childcare, medical clinics, and international medical missions.
At the 2019 Society for Education in Anesthesia fall meeting, I was invited to present ways to modernize the traditional curriculum vitae (CV) by creating a digital portfolio. By the end of this talk, learners will be able to: 1) digitize their CVs and update them into living documents; 2) utilize free online platforms for creation of a digital portfolio; and 3) augment the CV with an educator portfolio for academic faculty members primarily engaged in clinical teaching.
I hosted this seminar as part of the Emerging Leaders Development Program at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System.
Goal: To familiarize participants with the challenges and best practices of coaching and developing employees. Through discussion and instruction, participants will understand the importance of providing employees with personal guidance that will allow them to acquire new skills, advance professionally, and improve patient and customer outcomes.

Improving Campus Climate for Diversity and Inclusion: What Can Leaders Do?Julia Michaels
This webinar will explore how leaders at campuses that have made significant progress toward diversity succeeded in doing so – through their actions, words, policies, and practices. We will learn about the AAMC’s ongoing pilot of a Diversity & Inclusion Culture and Climate Toolkit at eight institutions in California. Finally, we will hear from CSU Fullerton, one of the pilot sites for AAMC’s D&I toolkit, about how they used the tool and implemented the results on their campus. The webinar will conclude with an audience Q&A and discussion around how to monitor and improve campus climate.
