Darren Lockyer was born in Brisbane, Australia in 1977 and grew up in rural Queensland, playing junior rugby league for Cities Gladiators before making his debut for the Brisbane Broncos in 1995. Lockyer had a highly successful career as a fullback and five-eighth, helping the Broncos win premierships in 1997, 1998 and 2000 while also serving as captain of Queensland and Australia. He is considered one of the greatest rugby league players of all time and an inspiration for those from rural communities.
