Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

2. Di cosa parleremo?
• L’industria dei comics americani
• Superman – il primo super eroe
• Gli altri supereroi della Golden Age
• Gli X-men
• Magneto
• Spider-man
• La Cosa dei F4
• E oggi?
2
onomatopeici (sbam!, splash!, bang!)
• inserimento dei testi/parole nelle nuvolette o
nelle didascalie se serve
• nel caso anche colorare
Il tavolo da disegno di Jack “The King” Kirby.
5
7. Max Gaines…
• Maxwell Ginsburg o Maxwell
Ginzberg è nato a New York
nel 1894
• Il suoi contributi nel mondo
dei comics:
• Ha inventato il formato 17x26 cm
• Ha diretto almeno due case editrici
(una la DC Comics, l’altra la EC
Comics)
7
8. Nascono I comic book
strisce uscite sui quotidiani.
come Kinney Shoes Stores e Canada Dry.
serie iniziarono i primi guadagni, 2.664,25 dollari.
8
9. Marvel e DC…
• Marvel Comics, fondata
nel 1939 da Martin
Goodman col nome di
Timely comics.
• Nel 1961 lancia I Fantastici
Quattro e poi Spider-man,
Iron Man e così via.
• Ma già dal 1939
pubblicava la Torcia
Umana, Capitan America,
Ka-zar, Namor.
• DC Comics, fondata nel
1934 come National Allied
Pubblications. Donenfeld
e Leibovitz la acquistano
nel 1936.
• Ha lanciato i supereroi come
Superman sul numero 1 di
Actions Comics, 1938.
(Jerry Siegel e Joe Shuster)
• Con il numero 27 di
Detective Comics lancia
Batman di Bob Kane e Bill
Finger
9
11. Superman
• Superman esce sul numero 1 di Actions
Comics, 1938.
• Superman all’inizio salta e non vola. È orfano,
cresciuto da genitori adottivi, lontano dalla terra
di origine. Viene cresciuto da due genitori ormai
anziani senza figli, anzi desideravano almeno
un figlio… proprio come Sansone nella Torah.
11
12. Superman e Sansone
• David Grossman ricorda ne Il miele del
leone:
• “In ogni epoca gli ebrei sono andati
orgogliosi delle gesta eroiche di
questo loro giudice, anelando a
possederne la forza, il coraggio e la
virilità… in ebraico ci si riferisce quasi
sempre come a Sansone l’eroe”.
• Sansone (in ebraico Shimshon, che
significa "piccolo sole") è un giudice
biblico, descritto nel Libro dei Giudici ai
capitoli 13; 14; 15; 16.
i Filistei, salvando il popolo ebraico.
12
13. He Stands for truth, justice…
• https://www.youtube.com/
watch?
v=62FgEIlWBoo&index=11&list
=FLX7SVlPAwpHw6DlzIbKCzXA
• video tratto dal film Superman
Returns. Il diretto del quotidiano
si chiede se Superman still
stands for truth, justice…
• quali sono i valori di Superman?
Potremmo dire: ancora segue i
precetti, segue una
alimentazione Kasherut?
Rispetta i mizvod?
(Jerry Siegel e Joe Shuster)
13
15. La Golden Age
• Il periodo degli anni Trenta, degli
esordi. I comics vendono, hanno
un enorme successo e vengono
creati diversi supereroi.
• A Superman e Batman, si unisce
anche Capitan America, ideato
da Joe Simon e Jack Kirby.
Combatte per la Libertà e la
Giustizia, il suo nemico è Hitler e
chiunque voglia ostacolare la
democrazia.
• Gli autori lo crearono per dare il
loro contributo alla Guerra contro
i nazisti.
15
16. Jack Kirby
• Jack Kirby nato Jacob
Kurtzberg (New York, 28
agosto 1917 – Thousand
Oaks, 6 febbraio 1994).
• Neil Gaiman nella introduzione
a “Kirby - King of Comics” di
Mark Evanier lo definisce
“come un tecnico a cui
viene consegnato un
aspirapolvere e, poche ore
dopo, restituisce un jet pack
perfettamente funzionante”
Jack Kirby scriveva che
attraverso le storie di divinità
cosmiche, di avventure
cosmiche, indagava il divino,
cercava di capire il disegno
divino.
16
20. X-men
• Gli X-men vengono pubblicati nel
1963, creati da Stan Lee e Jack
Kirby
• Sono dei mutanti, cioè nascono
con superpoteri e per questo sono
considerati diversi e quindi…
discriminati, segregati, internati in
campi di prigionia, uccisi, usati
come cavie da esperimento...
20
21. Alcuni personaggi chiave
• Kitty Pride si reca a un raduno
di sopravvissuti a New York.
• Kitty Pride è ebrea e il doppio
tema delle sue origini: ebrea e
mutante sono uno dei pilastri del
tema del riconoscimento del
diverso, della lotta alla
discriminazione che è sempre
presente negli X-men
21
22. “Sono ebrea e sono mutante”
• Questa tavola è uscita tre
anni fa circa.
• Il tema ebraico è sempre
presente nelle serie
Marvel.
• Gli autori sanno che i
nostri beniamini sono
ebrei.
22
23. Magneto
• Magneto, il cui vero nome è Max
Eisenhardt anche conosciuto
come Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, è
un personaggio del fumetti creato
da Stan Lee (testi) e Jack Kirby
(disegni), pubblicato dalla Marvel
Comics.
• Apparso per la prima volta sulle
pagine di X-Men n. 1 (settembre
1963)
v=HsG5QZFQIO0
23
24. Su magneto
Stan Lee
• “Non ho immaginato Magneto
come un cattivo ragazzo.
Voleva solo rispondere a
quella gente che era così
bigotta e razzista... Cercava di
difendere i mutanti e poiché la
società non li trattava bene,
voleva dargli una lezione. Era
naturalmente uno pericoloso...
ma non ho mai pensato che
fosse un villain.”
• “Una volta che trovai il punto di
partenza per Magneto (come
vittima dell’Olocausto), tutto il
resto andò al suo posto, perché
mi permetteva di trasformarlo in
una figura tragica che vuole
salvare il suo Popolo... quindi ho
avuto l’opportunità... di tentare di
redimerlo... di vedere... se si
poteva evolvere nello stesso
modo in cui Menachem Begin si
trasformò da il ragazzo che i
britannici consideravano “shoot
on sight” nel 1945... in uno
statista che vinse il Premio Nobel
per la Pace nel 1976.”
Chris Claremont
24
26. Spider-man
• Pubblicato su Amazing fantasy
nel 1962. Creato da Stan Lee e
Steve Ditko
• “Da grandi poteri derivano grandi
responsabilità”
• Peter Parker cerca di evitare i
doveri per inseguire fama e
successo con i poteri che ha
acquisito dal morso di un ragno
radioattivo, ma se si ha il potere
di fermare un assassino, si deve
farlo.
26
28
