I’m a third year maths student who is always looking for new challenges. I like to set my standards high, working to
the best of my abilities and giving 100%. I come to the UK at the age of 12 without speaking English properly,
however I managed to overcome this within a reasonable period of time. This clearly demonstrates that I am a fast
learner with enthusiasm and commitment.
Education:
2012-present University of Hertfordshire
BSc in Mathematics (First Class)
Key modules and skills acquired:
• Statistical Modelling (grade 85): Excellent understanding and ability to use SPSS to
analyse datasets including regression and ANOVA.
• Linear Modelling (grade 75): Further skills developed using SPSS including ANCOVA,
linear-logistic models and more.
• Multivariate Statistics: Good knowledge acquired in writing and applying codes in R to
interpret and report the results of analysing multivariate data.
• Numerical Methods (grade 64): Ability to solve problems using computer
implementations of numerical methods including MATLAB and Excel.
• Dissertation (linear algebra): Use of MATLAB program to compress and reduce storage
space of images using Singular Value Decomposition technique.
2007-2012 Greig City Academy
• A-levels: Maths (A), Chemistry (C)
• GCSE: 6 subjects A-C including Maths (B), English (C) and Science (AB)
Voluntary experience and Projects:
2013 Committed to a project in a secondary school where I had to observe and assist a teacher during a maths
lesson. At the end of this project I had to plan and deliver a lesson all on my own. This experience allowed me to
develop my written and verbal communication skills through planning and presentation as well as improving my
problem solving and analytical skills further.
2012 Was involved in a group project in statistical modelling. As a group, we had to design and carry out an
investigation by collecting and analysing data on second hand cars records such as millage and how it relates to its
market price. Since I took the role of group leader, I gained valuable skills such as project management skills and the
ability to prioritize tasks accordingly. This project not only shows that I can work in a team but also that I have a good
attention to detail.
2011 I volunteered to take part in an initiative called reading scheme, aimed to target students with
difficult reading skills, whose English is their second language. This opportunity allowed me to have one-to-
one contact and learn to deal with real people’s life situations. This shows once again that I have good
problem solving skills and commitment.
Other competencies :
Languages Spanish: Excellent conversational and written Spanish
IT Outstanding familiarity with all Microsoft Office packages including excel
