This document summarizes the value chain for cutlery and hunting equipment industry in Pakistan. It identifies issues at each stage of production including high costs of local and imported steel, outdated production techniques, uncompetitive electricity pricing, and low value addition due to weak marketing and packaging. Chinese manufacturers have lower costs due to use of composite materials, automated production processes, and competitive electricity prices, allowing them to capture 95% of the market. International importers further add value by repackaging and selling Pakistani products under their own brands at prices up to 8 times the original product cost.
