2. During my first year of study at UCT, I earned a position on the Deans List for having a GPA
higher than 75%. I placed fourth overall in my faculty (among the first years). A scholarship
of R20 000 was awarded to me. My second year culminated in my topping my class, earning
the class medal and a scholarship of R20 000.
I am a current member of the Golden Key Society, which invites students from associated
universities who are in the top 15% of students at the university, in terms of academics.
I am enrolled in the Taekwondo discipline of martial arts at UCT and have just earned my
yellow belt.
As part of my third year studies, an 8 legged walking robot that is 100 X 150 X 75 mm in size
was designed. A picture of this robot as well as a CAD render of it is attached.
During my holidays, I also completed a wall mural (10 X 2 meters in size) which is located at
Papa Joes Bakery on Allen Street, Newcastle. This is more of a personal achievement. The
painting depicts a semi-submerged city with familiar landmarks in a state of decay. A picture
of this painting is attached.
I was the headboy of LHS in 2012, and together with a great team of prefects, spearheaded
many activities such as tree planting projects and fund raising concerts.
During 2010, I participated in a project called YCAP (Youth Citizens Action Program) which
allowed learners to bring about change in their school while participating in a competition.
My group placed first on a national level .Our project dealt with litter control and the
upliftment of the school environment.

INTERESTS

My specific interests with regard to my career are renewable energy, robotics, biomedical
applications of technology, creating new, fun and interactive ways of using technology and
all electrical systems. I would, one day, like to be on the forefront of technology, finding new
and innovative ways to use technology to help people in every facet of life- be it cleaner
energy, smarter phones, or more elaborate machines used during manufacturing processes.
I am interested in any and all systems which occur naturally and those that are man-made. I
enjoy learning about the operation of such systems, such as the natural water cycle or the
manufacturing process of chewing gum. I find beauty in the operation of these systems, and
the manner in which micro-subsystems come together to carry out a single task. .
I enjoy reading works of fiction, painting, drawing and expressing myself using any media,
be it charcoal or scrap metal. I play golf socially and belong to the UCT golf club.
