People Person: Before I got to high school, I was painfully shy. I was never a terribly
popular person before that and I certainly didn't have a lot of close friends, so I decided
to sign up for a theater class to help me get over my shyness and overall social
awkwardness. With the instruction of our teacher Pat Avery and a host of other kids
who were in the same painful position as me, I was quickly able to open up, reach out,
and forge many close friendships in the traumatizing fires that burn on the hormonal
minefield that is the High school theater stage. From that first year of high school on,
whether it’s been in a social context, an academic setting, or a professional one in the
workplace, I've been able to work productively and interact professionally with
everybody I have met.
A Dependable, Hard worker: When I was in the fifth grade I was just a lowly cub scout,
aspiring to one day be among the ranks of the awesome Eagle Scouts who came to our
grade school to tell us about the incredible world of camping, archery, hiking, and
adventuring that was the Boy Scouts of America. Shortly thereafter I became a Scout,
the lowest rank in the BSA, and set off on a whirlwind of adventure and hardship.
Working diligently and vigilantly to live the scout slogan, "do a good turn daily", I
worked my way from Tenderfoot to Second Class and from there to First Class. I worked
hard to earn merit badge after merit badge and spent many hours volunteering in the
community on my way to becoming a Star Scout, and I worked even harder to become a
Life Scout. After years of hard work, countless hours practicing tying every knot in the
book, twenty one merit badges, and the completion of a project in which I refurbished a
parking lot, landscaped, and built a sound proofing fence for the Child Advocacy Center
of Eugene, I had earned the rank of Eagle Scout. It took five years of hard work and
determination, but it made me the person I am today, and gives me the direction I need
to become the person that I wish to be in the future.
